Any chance we can get something like this for the ATAG Server? RAF Summer Offensive 1941 with Roadsteads, Ramrod, Circus missions? One sided, with the Luftwaffe in a purely defensive role (i.e. not bombing targets over England).

A small change from the CloD routine on the Channel Map we‘ve been doing for the past 9 years?

THAT'S WHAT I'M TAKIN ABOUT!!! lol

Now that we finally have these beautiful aeroplanes it would be nice if we could put them to use on both fronts now and then

Channel Front Youtube took mine down ..

Oh yes, that would be quite something.
Wellington raids, late Blenheims, Ju88A & C models, early Bf109Fs (F-4 derated at the most), Hurricane Mk.IIs (12 lbs only), Spitfire Mk.II and V models (12lbs only)

We desperately need something like this.

Also Fall Rot needs to be taken off Fusion #3. We waited so many years for our new toys and Fall Rot goes completely backwards, other than the D520. Every day it seems I try to get a flight in before work and the server is on Fall Rot, with 0 players.

Just build some exciting, well balanced, bug free missions and forward them to ATAG.
I'm sure they will be well received.

Yes I agree on this. Don't get me wrong, fall rot was a nice event (and the only one done also on Sunday) but since we have TF5 planes let's use them!

Re: Any 1941...Channel front missions coming

So now that Ziel Tobruk is out I've started working on a Channel map with the new aircraft. It will be set in June 1941 so will use the Spit Vb and 109F (not sure which F variant was in service then - maybe someone can enlighten me?) as the Alpha dogs in the fight.

Still early days and subject to change but I'm thinking the 4 hour mission will feature

    (a) 3 x Circus raids (kernel of each raid will be AI but players are encourage to join in the raid / attack the raid) in the Le Torquet to Dunkirk and inland AO, spread across the 4 hours

    (b) Luftwafe night blitz sorties (but flown in the day) in the western part of the map with defending human flown Beaufighters / Hurricane NFs available to intercept the AI (stream type raid) bombers and any human bomber who want to join the stream. And for Noofy - there will be beacons.

    (c) RAF night bomber raids (but flown in the day) doing likewise re the stream of AI and human Wellingtons bombing stuff in France with 110s and 88 C-2 and maybe C-4s to defend

    (d) Low level 'tip and run', Tiefangriff and Storangriff jabo sorties raids on the south coast of England as was flown in 1941/1942

    (e) Low level night time raids (but flown in the day) by RAF cannon armed Hurricanes inland into France hunting trains, airfields and generally making a nuisance of themselves

    (f) and maybe some long range strike sorties deep inland to test players navigation skills etc

Ive only just started building the mission and it will take me some time to build and then I'll need some assistance from some others who are all very busy. And it might be that i have to change my plans re the above if i cant get it working. But hopefully I can get it working more or less as described and I'm hoping it will be fun when the servers are full and even when quiet.

So in the meantime to whet your appetites you can read these books that I'm using to build the mission

    https://www.bookdepository.com/The-B...?ref=grid-view

    https://www.amazon.com/Luftwaffe-Fig.../dp/0811706915

    https://www.worldofbooks.com/en-au/b...B#GOR010843529

    https://www.amazon.com/Pfadfinder-Lu.../dp/0752416928

I wont be recreating the exact circus raids that occurred during June 1941 but will be using the details to create representative circus missions flown at about the 'right' altitude (18000+ ft by the time they crossed the French coast) and the right speed (180 mph) and going after similar types of targets.

For example the Biggin Hill book describes what the early Circus formations consisted of in terms of fighter escorts and their positions with respect to the Blennies so I'll be looking to create these using AI as the kernel. Sufficient warning time will be given to enable human Blenny and fighter flyers to meet these raids and form up and fly across as part of the circus if they like. And likewise the LW flyers will get some warning of the inbound raid via radar / listening service etc so they can plan their attacks.

I have a point system in mind that will hopefully encourage both bombers and fighter pilots to go after mission objectives but i need to think this through some more to see if it will work.

So that is about it for now. It will take time but hopefully i can get this mission out the door in coming weeks/months.

    Ezzie

This sounds very interesting Ezzie and something the community is waiting for as far as I can see. If your SP missions for DW and 'Ziel Tobruk' map are anything to go by then it will be great.

I have found this book by Norman Franks a good reference for the RAF 'Circus' operations.

As a matter of interest my Father-in-Law was a Blenheim air gunner on 15 Squadron, 2 Group RAF and actually took part in many of the 1941 operations.

One such operation recorded in his flying logbook is 'Circus' 25 on the 27 June 1941 when 24 aircraft bombed a steel works in Lille.

Thanks for all your hard work, time and effort that you are putting into this. If you think I can help in anyway let me know.

Re: Any 1941...Channel front missions coming

    That sounds good!
Maybe you could add some Costal Command style parts in the mission with small coastal convoys consisting of small vessels going close to the french coast between different ports that could be hunted down by some Beaufighters or Hurribombers.
I know these strike wings were not really effective in 41 but I think it would attract at least DerDa and me

    You are right there Kayo.

The first of the Strike Wings was formed by 16 Group in November 1942, at North Coates on the Lincolnshire coast. It was made up of two Beaufighter MkVIC sqauadrons, nos. 236 and 254.

Guess we read the same books Vamp
It would just be so nice to make use of the 4 cannons and low level strikes just are so much more appealing to me than these high level stuff.
But I would be already satisfied to find some targets like trains or other stuff for the Hurribombers as Ezzie wrote.

The Reich Intruders also gives a pretty good view of 2nd groups blennies point of view for circus's and anti shipping raids during 1941. Gives very good indication just how lethal particularly anti shipping raids were considered by the crews. If I remember correctly they were averaging 16 planes lost for every ship sunk.

With respect to the discussion over at 'Ziel Tobruk' I think the answer really is to provide much more targets of different kind with less points each, or alternatively a very high number of points that needs to be reached to turn the map.

In this way you a re able to provide a large number of different targets for different kinds of aircraft and attack styles and also give single pilots with limites time to fly the opportunity to 'contribute to the larger goal'.

This would greatly help to attract people to ground attack missions, instead of trying to join the nearest furball.
