Event - Fall Rot - Part II this weekend Saturday 10 Oct 2030 GMT

    Hi All,

For those who missed the action last weekend, or for those that want to get back in the cockpit of the great D.520, here is you chance!

Last weekend's event saw plenty of dogfighting action. This weekend will be no different!

TFS will be Livestreaming the event, this week from the viewpoint of the Luftwaffe. Join TFS's Pattle, along with Karaya and Flare as we do battle this time against the D.520, starting in the Bf-109 E-1 as shown in the picture.

As this is a mission including Desert Wings Tobruk aircraft, such as the D.520, you will need to own DWT to take part.

    Hope to see you there.

    Cheers,

    Pattle

Will be pounding those red airfields with a Ju88.
Ideally would be to team up with 2-3 other bombers...

Re: Event - Fall Rot - Part II this weekend Saturday 10 Oct 2030 GMT

Great event and a lot of fun as always.

Somehow this time some of the mission parameters were a bit odd...

1- Beaufighter available in a June 1940 mission ( First Beau operations were in Nov-Dec 1940 and mainly as nightfighters )

2- For the RAF Spit Ia and Beaufighter available. For the LW only Bf 110 crap variants. ( Speaking of heavy-fighters ). Pretty much the comparison was as trying to have a competition with Usain Bolt with you running on a wheelchair

3- I haven't understood for all the duration of the mission what TAB-7-1 was indicating...Several times I have had a whole RAF squadron below me or in visual range...Hit TAB-7-1...Report from radar control was something like " Fighters, bearing 240, 30 km "...Mah..Maybe in the radar control room they were all drunk today

Re: Event - Fall Rot - Part II this weekend Saturday 10 Oct 2030 GMT

    Belial -

TAB 7-1 tracks the first plane of the type to spawn in. Then it tracks that single one until it dies. Then it will track the next plane to spawn in, etc.

It doesn't track the closest one.

In regards to the types available - the Spit Ia is only available at a far airfield (Dieppe I believe?) - just like the Germans can only get the E-4 at St Omer. The rest are all E-3s, E-1s, and Hurricanes. Almost everyone in the server that I saw was in Hurris, D520s, or E1s/E3s. The point of the Fall Rot map is to not have the "good" variants. That's why there aren't the auto-pitch 109s and 110s except for at the far bases. The map is not 100% historical though, some concessions have to be made and we like to have planes available for those who like to fly them.

On another note though, the event was fun! A bit hectic but I had a blast. Mostly a blast at the open air as I seemed to miss almost every shot I took! Ended the map with about 1 kill after shooting at about 10 RAF/Armée de l'air fighters. Will have to sort out my FPS issues while streaming. It would be great to see more viewers too, last week I had 15 this week only 4 :( but that's alright, less on the stream is more in the server!

Re: Event - Fall Rot - Part II this weekend Saturday 10 Oct 2030 GMT

This was another crackin' event staged by our own...our very own...Mr ATAG_Pattle and like Flare, I had a real blast!

A lot of the fun was flying with Slot and Bubbadeluxe who (hopefully they won't mind me saying) are quite new pilots to the sim. Hearing their enthusiasm, excitement and the depth to which they were planning bombing attacks in the humble little Hurricane Fb (yes, we were flying Hurricanes all night!) reminded me how good this sim is and how easy it is for us 'seasoned' pilots to take it all for granted!

There were a lot of new or returning pilots 'on' last night and it is a tremendous 'boost' to have them around. Long may it continue.

Goes to show that...... 'Pattle's Phantasmagoria of Flying Fun and Frolics'..... really does draw the crowd. I hope these new pilots stick around. There's loads more events to come and they are adding to our fun 'big time!' Salute!

    Hi all
Just wanted to thank Prattle and all TFS for organising these events and for making us feel welcome.

This has been my first set of sorties into multiplayer, having only flown Clod offline campaigns before (i still have Destaster soft Wick v Dundas which was quite hard but still way different to 'live' pilots).

Big shout to Marlow and the rest of the chaps on Allied TS channel for being so patient and helping my (eventual) navigation to target. Not flown this area of France much and must remember that East is on the gear selector side of the cockpit.
Hope the radio comms was not too excessive as still getting used to using mic protocol. Happy to PTT if that is what others use.

Bubbadeluxe and i have been meeting up to get some team flying practice on both ATAG and Dangerdogs to try and improve our skills. (Honest).
We have had some great fun and never fail to have a laugh at ourselves. For example I forgot to open my rads and blew the engine on takeoff the first time i tried an E1.
I have been sticking to Hurri and Spits despite the dreadful compass giro setting and drift.

I have had some trouble with my Edtracker which works fine offline but when flying online keeps twitching and looking backwards all the time. Been trying to find a solution in case its a conflict with something as its not very helpful landing, taking off, dogfighting or just trying to navigate if you are always looking at your backside!

Just watched the stream and in some ways am glad i got a bit lost lost and ended up nowhere near Abbeville!

Anyway hope to join up again if i can next week.

    Hi Slot.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your flying experience on multiplayer. TS coms can be a bit chaotic particularly when you have lots of pilots speaking at once. Can be a bit distracting when you are setting your aircraft up for take-off. I mainly fly bombers and there seems so to be many more essential tasks when prepping for take-off when you are a bomber pilot.
I have the Hatrack system attached to my headphones. I find if there is any light source, no matter how small behind you it can cause the tracking a big problem. I fly almost in darkness with just a small lamp in front of me to illuminate my keyboard and joystick.

Vickers Wellington Mk1c. OJ-F P2517 'F for Freddie' of No.149 Squadron, star of 'Target for Tonight' directed by Harry Watt released in July 1941.

Freddy prepares for an air test prior to departure from Ford on ops with No.149 Squadron for a daring daylight attack on Marshalling Yards in Caen France 31\1|21. ATAG Operation Milk Run. Target destroyed. Six Wellingtons, One Blenheim together with
their Spitfire escort returned safely. One Wellington crashed on landing at Ford.

Re: Event - Fall Rot - Part II this weekend Saturday 10 Oct 2030 GMT

I second Slot's thanks to Pattle and the Team Fusion crew for putting these regular events together and doing the streamed videos. Also, big thanks to Marlow the gents on the Allied TS channel for their patience and good humour on the day. The online experience was very enjoyable despite being bounced twice and swotted unceremoniously from the sky when I got cocky and tried a low level bombing and strafing run on Ligescourt in my lone Hurricane. Lessons learned: I can fly the planes, but I ain't so hot yet fighting in them! Just like a lot of the pilots flying at that stage of the war. I really like that particular map too - quite challenging to find your way back to Grandvilliers initially, but fine once you've got Abbeville, Amiens and the various river systems fixed in your mind. This sim has real character and is such a great way to appreciate military aviation history.

Off topic for the Fall Rot event, but of possible interest to some and relevant to the 'Desert Wings' add-on... I picked up an excellent read a while back - 'The Desert Air Force in World War II: Air Power in the Western Desert 1940-1942' by Ken Delve. A very detailed book and possibly of interest to mission builders. It includes info on operations, details on key airfield setups, a chronology of events and order of battle from late 1939 to the end of 1942. Worth checking it out if you haven't already.

Anyway, thanks for the fun and looking forward to the next event!

    Hi Flak Boss
Yea i have windows above and behind so gave up TrackIR as was not stable.

Been using "Edtracker" attached to headphones which have been really great with even some pseudo 6DF but suddenly online only it is twitching. The Edtrack website has unfortunately disappeared so am trying various things to work out why.

Fingers crossed i can sort as a great bit of kit.

    Happy flying

    Hi Slot.
Correct me if I am wrong but is the Edtracker system wireless? Maybe something is interfering with your wireless link when online? With the Hatrack system it is all wires, which get in your way and are a bit of a problem but it works well and their website is a big help.

    Goodluck.

During the entire event on Sunday I'm sure I only saw a single Spitfire and Beaufighter during the 2 hours I was flying. Everything else was just Hurricanes and D.520s.
The Bf110C-4/B was available which, besides the C-4/N, is one of the best performing 110s, especially at low alts.

Anyways don't want to get into lengthy discussions here. The event was a lot of fun, there will be videos of course in due time

From The Office Of The Baron Hans Von Schnarglepussen:

    Greetings
The Baron Von Schnarglepussen has instructed me to extend his congratulations and gratitude to
ATAG_Pattle for his hosting of yet another event. It was in The Baron's words, "A glorious undertaking",
and enjoyed greatly by The Baron.

The Baron Von Schnarglepussen also wishes to acknowledge and thank Herr Noofy and Herr Jeepy for their
patience and guidance in what were his first operational sorties in the Ju88. Their efforts have not gone
unremarked and The Baron's praise of these two gallant servants of The Reich has been forwarded to
the High Command along with his recommendations for promotions and decorations.

Regrettably, The Baron was obliged to attend to other duties at Court which could not be forsaken.
That The Baron could not be present to see the final ejection of the Englanders from the continent
back to their island was a sore disappointment to The Baron. That order will soon be established over
this land of Napoleonic hordes will suffice to assuage his regret.

Ed tracker isn't affected by light sources in the same way as Track IR and similar devices are. I too have a wireless Ed Tracker which I use as a back up for when flying with the sun shining through the window next to my pc, and I have experienced a similar issue as you are getting with yours.

I found that the USB receiver 'dongle' needs to be as close to the unit as possible during use. I connected mine to a USB extension cable so that it is lying next to my joystick on my desk, about 0.75 metre from the unit on my head, and this cured the problem for me.

Also.. and I know this is kinda obvious, but make sure the unit itself is charged before use
