Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

    Hi,
I understand from 1lokos that the Battle of Britain sim (not desert, not interested at all in that) now sees correct groundcrew, i.e the army are replaced by the airforce if one gets hold of V5.
FANTASTIC NEWS...As such I want V5 for BoB, I dont want my BoB taken over by sand and have to try and get at the BoB sim after install though. I want it to run like Blitz, the BoB is there to use.
is this Tobruk stuff all mixed in with BoB, or does one (hopefully) have to click Tobruk from the very start to have all the terrains, missions, aircraft and so on displayed ?

Where do I get V5 from for BoB improvements and how do I install it so that my other version of Blitz, vanilla and MOD are still operational should I wish to run them.

Currently in C:\Users\...............\1c Softclub I have three folders:-
    il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover
il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - MOD
il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - Vanilla

and I always install the latest version to my D drive, and have a shortcut to each version on my desktop. If I see an issue I run a previous version to see if it was always there etc.

as Blitz became the non suffix one will I gain a fourth one and what comes after the hyphen ?

I see V5 runs fine on Win7 so folk say which is GREAT news.

Is V5 a WIP for testing or is it a Final release, is it buggy or stable etc.

It was also said that the sounds would be better in V5 so I am keen to experience better sounds as those in Blitz are awful, I supplied correct sound files for use so would like to hear them.

Is there a list of changes that V5 brings to BoB ?

    Cheers

    BOBC

Hi BOBC, so glad you are still interested in the sim; here is an incomplete list of things you are missing out on by not updating to version 5.011 for free.

*** 3DObjects: Beaufighter (all versions), Observer cockpit: the observer can now raise his head higher.
*** 3DObjects: Beaufighter (all versions), pilot cockpit: new high resolution textures for instruments, add of gauge glass reflection, minor improvement on some other textures
*** 3DObjects: Beaufighter (all) externals: Fuselage damage corrected.
*** 3DObjects: Beaufighter NF cockpit illumination too low. Cockpit illumination slightly more intense.
*** 3DObjects: Bf 109 E, Bf 110C, He 111: Electrical Gearlegindicator Fl. 32526 Secondary illumination command enabled (set to ON by default) for control of Electrical Gearlegindicator Fl. 32526. Works for Bf 109 E and Bf 110C.
*** 3DObjects: Bf 110 C-4NJG: cockpit lighting adjusted: Primary Christmas light-show reduced to more believable level.
*** 3DObjects: Flickering Hurricane lever fixed.
*** 3DObjects: G.50 & Hurricanes: 'UCx' chunk not found freeze. Fixed.
*** 3DObjects: Hurricane cockpit brake lever fix
*** 3DObjects: New weapon type "Landmine" : Objects of this type work just like objects of type Mines (which are Seamines), but unlike Seamines are not automatically positioned at sealevel (height zero) but honour location's terrain height and the object's "Ground_Level" hook.
*** 3DObjects: Rear turret of Flowers Class Corvette now functional.
*** 3DWorld: Collisions restricted to speedtree objects with collision objects: Bushes have the collision objects removed, so no collisions with bushes anymore
*** 3DWorld: Correct height determination in shore blocks. Planes now 'splash' correctly in blocks with both land and water.
*** 3DObjects: Ju 88, Animation fixed for prop pitch levers constant speed props.
*** 3DObjects: Turret swivel speed limited to 45 degrees per second max
*** AI: Air Group spacing, Values adjusted to reduce collisions
*** AI: aircraft performing strafing attacks will now execute multiple passes as specified in the Full Mission Builder. Multiple GAttack waypoints may be specified and AI aircraft will attack each in turn with specified number of passes.
*** AI: Code updated to stop aircraft from flying into the ground while attempting to strafe. Angle of attack reduced and time on target maximized.
*** AI: Dead turret gunners lean on trigger only 20% of the time.
*** AI: Free Hunt waypoint type. Removed requirement for attacker to have energy advantage. Now functions as 'Engage Fighter or Bomber'.
*** AI: GAttack Spiral Up now randomly spirals left or right. All spirals were to the right.
*** AI: Gunners now fire at all enemy aircraft.
*** AI: gunners will open fire between 300m and 500m depending on shooting skill: Old code had gunners opening up at a random distance from 500m to 800m. Now better gunners hold their fire until enemy is closer.
*** AI: Italian AI now speaks Italian
*** AI: Ships created with average skill level instead of veteran.
*** AI: Siren range: Sirens will now sound when enemy aircraft approach within 10km, up from 1km.
*** AI: Vehicle spacing increased. The BestSpace value for all ground vehicles was too small (two lengths) and has been doubled. This results in fewer collisions and less accordioning. Also code to maneuver around obstacles etc. now works correctly.
*** AI: Vehicles now staying on roads and crossing bridges. Please read the FMB manual’s guidelines on how to set vehicles’ paths correctly. Also note: Now that vehicles behave correctly, problems surface we did not have when they behaved incorrectly. Especially with bridges. Many bridges on the Channel Map were broken originally and never repaired.
*** Aircraft Damage Modeling: New damage models for all aircraft in BLITZ.
*** Aircraft Overheat Modeling: New overheat modeling for all aircraft in BLITZ.
*** Aircraft Weapons Modeling: New ballistics modeling for all weapons in BLITZ.

*** Effects: no more dust/sand/earth effect on shots hitting wooden parts of aircraft (e.g. Hurricanes) [Artist]
*** Full Mission Builder Add newly saved and "Save As..." to "Recently Opened Files"
*** Full Mission Builder, local menu: added command "Dissolve Group" (visible only when objects are combined in a group)
*** Full Mission Builder, menu "File", new item "Import ...": Allows to import elements from another mission ( = template) into the current mission. [Artist]: Importable elements are those in the mission file's sections [Buildings], [Stationary], and [AIChiefs]. This roughly encompasses the Object Viewer's categories Animals, Artillery, Buildings, Mines, Searchlight, Smokes, Static, Static Ships, and Winches. The template mission must (naturally) use the same map as the mission you want to import it into.
*** Full Mission Builder, Options => Controls => Category "Builder": Corrected naming of Event Names "Select into Group" and "Remove From Group" (formerly both were named just "Select"): Function of both is to draw a rectangle over one or several objects to add them into (or remove them from) a group which then can be moved as a whole or saved to a 'paste file'.
*** Full Mission Builder, Scripting: AMission has Mission Duration function: This is to allow mission builders to calculate time left. The default value is four hours but mission coders can override that.
*** Full Mission Builder, scripts: //$include directive accepts relative paths such as "." and ".."
*** Full Mission Builder, Support for optional DespawnAfterLandingTimeout in mission file. This parameter can be manually added to the MAIN section of the zero mission file to set the timeout in seconds. If the value is set to -1 the aircraft will never despawn. Default value is 600 seconds, maximum settable value 86400 (24 hours)
*** Full Mission builder: Default AI skill values revised
*** Full Mission Builder: Default Battle Area settings revised: Grid set to 5km and area covers entire map.

*** GUI: Ingame map's briefing is scrollable
*** GUI: Aircraft weathering/aging default is now 50%
*** GUI: darker backgrounds on Options pages, add drop shadow to title labels and set default label background to white.
*** GUI: Fix crash in old bob mission when pressing OK in plane options.
*** GUI: Game Page 'Quick Mission' shows mission's title on top, not filename.
*** GUI: Game Page 'Quick Mission': Filter by Map
*** GUI: Incorporated many corrections from the localization team
*** GUI: Options => Controls => Aircraft; Keys: Oil Radiator Engine Numbering Inverted
*** GUI: Radiator cut-off commands now appear on the HUD
*** GUI: Removed unsupported controls in Options => Controls. Controls that are not yet supported (e.g. controls for engines #3 through #8, Arrestor Hook, etc.) have been removed from the Options => Controls list until actually needed again.
*** GUI: Renamed misleading 2nd false "External View" to "Release Position": There were two Controls (Options, Controls, Keys, View) named "External View": 1. The true "External View" (default F2), which changes the view to the outside while the player remains in the pilot's seat. 2. The false "External View" (default Alt-F2), which actually moved the player from his current position (e.g. gunner) back into the pilot's seat - while releasing that position back to the AI ...*or*, if the player is already in the pilot's seat, removes the player from the aircraft and hands the aircraft to the AI (multiplayer server usually destroy the aircraft then - preventing the player from re-taking control with "Take control of the selected AI aircraft").
*** GUI: Tank selector custom names now appear as cockpit tooltips on mouse over.
*** GUI: Wording, "Bomb fuzes" instead of "Bombs" (in Loadout) or "Detonators" (MFB)

SMAA is a more advanced technique (3 shader passes), provides 2 modes (Luma and Color, the second is more expensive) and 4 quality presets.
*** MISC: The launcher64.exe is now signed to hopefully prevent issues with antivirus-software (especially Avast and AVR)
*** MISC: When user has axis configured for prop pitch control it now spawns in neutral.
*** Single Player: Support for user created campaigns in <UserDocuments>\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\mission\campaign\custom\

*** Sound: Changed the sound engine from fmod4 to fmod5
*** Sound: Fixes ground explosion effects not being heard beyond 1000m.
*** Sound: Fixes various smaller sound bugs, such as detach sound not adhering to distance attenuation
*** Fix: In-Game Volume slider is now locked at 100 percent
NOTE: When Il-2 Cliffs of Dover is Running, use the Windows Mixer (Task Bar, loudspeaker icon, right mouse click, choose mixer, and adjust "Il-2 Cliffs of Dover" to a volume of your liking.

Re: Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

Blitz replaced all previous version of Cliffs of Dover. That is the only one you should have installed on your system.
Can’t really say how to have all three version separately (CloD before Blitz, CloD before Blitz with TF mods, CloB Blitz).

AFAIK changes to the core game apply to both Blitz and Blitz+Tobruk.
When you install Blitz from Steam, it will be updated to the latest version (5.011 I think right now) and you can check for the changes.
Since you already have the original Cliffs of Dover on Steam, Blitz is there too as a second, different game.

Re: Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

Blitz replaced all previous version of Cliffs of Dover. That is the only one you should have installed on your system.
    I have all versions installed
Does no harm but great for establishing if something doesnt look right anymore where it did look right.
I followed another user doing same, would never have worked out how to do it otherwise.

Can’t really say how to have all three version separately (CloD before Blitz, CloD before Blitz with TF mods, CloB Blitz).
simple, create folder on D drive and install to there, it creates IL2 folders for skins and other things on C drive, thats where skins get put for testing, and where stills get generated etc.
The exe file runs from D drive, make a shortcut to that and put on desktop.

I am concerned though if I get v5 it will overwrite Blitz as I have it, if my skins dont look right in v5 due to colour engine changes if any have occurred I will be flying them for my own pleasure and stills making in Blitz 4.531. (or whatever the v4 number is)

However install of Blitz made a folder IL2 Sturmovik with no suffix on C drive. If I install v5 from Steam that will overwrite that folder I would think and I will lose ability to run 4.531.
I need to be able to run previous versions incase changes get made to the colours and reflections system not to my liking. The hoar frost that was supposed to be reflections I avoided by running a previous version, until it was made better in Blitz.

If I create a new folder called CoD V5 on D drive and add a suffix of Blitz V4 to the current folder on C drive, then will I be able to install V5 and will it generate a new IL2 Sturmovik folder with no suffix on C drive ?

I need to end up with :-
    C:\Users\...............\1c Softclub ...four folders:-
    il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover
il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - Blitz V4
il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - MOD
il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - Vanilla

as for the changes, blimey !

I need to peruse list carefully as I hope to see correct groundcrew as was said would happen and 1lokos says is now there, far better engine sounds removing the nasally lawnmower noises (eeeeeeeyaaaaaaw of fly by) e.g. as Tiger33 posted ( I supplied real sound set to TF), removal of USAF gunsight on MG15, correction of flying gear colour and service dress colour, ability to fly low as AI, 110 defensive circles, Belfast Truss hangars as were the type at airfields, size of inst panel and gunsight as per real aircraft ('Del' is too in the face and too large, 'end' is then too small, 24 inch monitor 1920 res)., default Spitfire corrected to be Mk l., fix incorrect cowling on 109E., clouds that dont suddenly appear by magic., brown snow to be white, Me110 to be correct scale compared to trees and houses when viewed externally., Chain home to have all three platforms.

I have pasted that list into word and searched on words ground, army, personnel, and find no mention of their removal and replacement with Luft and RAF at all. 1lokos though definitely said that gross error was gone and all was well as long as one was willing to accept the 'battle bowlers'.

At least in Channel map - don't check in Tobruk, RAF ground crew now use blue uniform, but unless some drivers bareheaded they use "Battle Bowler" all time.
Waited years and years to see the correct ground scenes, after all its a BoB sim and looked stupid as it was, being able to recreate the BoB in colour in air and on ground is for me the buzz of it all, taking stills and getting realism is my thrill as well as combat, Larry and his 610 sqdn stills awesome, ground servicing with cowlings off awesome, but ruined with the army present, , so whats happened there, 1lokos wasnt dreaming.

Re: Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

    Hi,

1lokos says groundcrew fixed in 5 but I dont see this in the list .

still dont know, where do I get Blitz 5 from ?

I need to install it and retain Blitz 4, because if it messes up all my accurate colour skins, I will still be playing 4, not sure I will get time to redo 6 months work, I need to see how things differ, I have always installed manually choosing location etc, never ever let something auto install, I managed this with 4 from steam. I have steam online disabled from when steam wrecked our Blitz and folk had to repair installs, I struck lucky by not having run Blitz after their update did this, and havent heard if all is ok since., so I run steam offline.

Can I download 5 without having to risk it updating 4 ?

    Cheers

The ground crew wearing airforce uniforms is dependent on the mission file, as the mission creator is the one who chooses wether or not an object has an army or airforce crew.

It’s done on an object-by-object basis, so that, for example, there will be Kubelwagens with Luftwaffe drivers at an airfield, and Kubelwagens with Heer drivers at the front lines if the mission designer wishes.

This has been possible since at least 4.5, possibly even at the game’s initial launch.

Hi BOBC - I highly recommend Tobruk as there are many improvements which apply to the BOB side of things too.

But like you I wanted to keep the old Blitz, mainly because I prefer the old-type, less extreme reflections on cockpit canopies etc. All I did was to take a copy of the old pre-Tobruk version files and move them to a separate location (which you run by clicking on the launcher application from the within those files rather than using the desktop shortcut). Then you can download Tobruk, which updates the old Blitz in its original location as per normal, and use the desktop shortcut which it creates to run it.
The only other thing to do is, when you want to run the old Blitz, rename the IcSoftclub folder in My Documents so Blitz sets up its own new one. You do the same in reverse when you want to run Tobruk.

Re: Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

    Hi,
Still wondering as per title of thread, please anyone, where do I get V5 from ?
I have looked all over the forum and cant see mention anywhere, searched on V5, also on Tobruk, thought it would be pinned in TF new releases downloads, that area of the forum, but nothing.
Only that I know of talk of it am I searching for it.
What advertisement of it is being done and where ?

any newbie would have given up.

    Hi Carbolicus,
it may have been you that talked through how one could run different versions by renaming folders before installing next version.
I followed the method when first doing CoD.

    see my thread at :-
    https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.c...458#post369458

where I detail the installations I have, and my plan for the install of V5.

Will that method work, answers on that thread.

I have a desktop shortcut for each version TF made, each targets the launcher in the folder on D drive for the version, though Blitz targets Steam.
no renaming of folders needed, hope to run V5 that way as well.
    I normally run Blitz. v4.312

    My Blitz 4.53 is at
D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz
if I open this folder immediately inside (PC term is root of folder) are my Blitz files and folders such as missions, paintschemes etc.

I see when I installed Blitz from steam a few days ago , Blitz ended up not in the root of the folder I gave it to install to, but deeper inside so it ended up at:-
D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz.
I will try for selecting the D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz folder but fear it wont simply update Blitz and again it will create a steamapps within my games folder so I end up with Blitz folder within Blitz.
Steam has changed the way it installs new install of Blitz, .

I hope the d/click launcher works as you mention.

It does so on my pre Blitz versions, Blitz shortcut targets a https address yet my steam when set to online declared a network connection failure, so how it managed to launch Blitz from the desktop shortcut I do not know.

    to all...
I havent actually found anything much yet that fixes key issues in BoB now that I am running V5. explosions on Hawkinge in bombing vanish then reappear part way through, (flying chunks of chalk gone which is good), hangars totally wrong, no Belfasts, Do17Z with golf ball rivets, ditto Beaufighter, flying spit still puts up a Mk 2 , a travesty for the Mk1 which is what populated BoB, it also has a fuel gauge thats incorrect should be 48 gallon, the sort of thing that tallies with the fixes in the v5 list, Me110 size of a radio control aircraft down near ground level, engine sounds weak, just totally different to the real thing, and machine gun sounds not like the real thing, except MGFF, MG15 has USAAF gunsight still, default groundcrew wrong (it was said this was being fixed in V5 ) cotton wool clouds suddenly appear, Luftwaffe flying kit still wrong (no change) yet list says their textures are updated and it was said V5 was fixing all the wrong kit colours etc), Me110 defensive circles essential to BoB gameplay as such were often happening in 1940 not there, such are big visible things basic to BoB looking correct. I see lots of minutae fixes in the list which I never would have spotted . I also see a mystical hHarry Potter type aura bright blue film as panels and airbrushed lines on glazing I have never seen in all my years filming the real thing. Not helping with the realism that this sim had, its killed what were photorealistic aircraft and the joy of getting stills that looked real, . Cockpit shadows almost jet black, cant now see the instrument faces, puzzling as folk are into flying and want minute fixes on flight settings, if the list is to go by,. Default skins colours still wrong. No flyable wellington yet list has one and I am with a new blitz v5.015 install not an update. Not sure of this V5 given these basic things and loss of what looked real and seeing instruments.

Maybe I havent run something that shows big visible changes yet, so what can I run so as to see some of the BoB improvements as 2yrs is a long time so I wish to view the more visible changes, I am not into minute flight settings though no doubt they make flying far better. 48 v 37 gauge though is significant.

Version 5 is IL-2 STURMOVIK DESERT WINGS - TOBRUK.

You can purchase it on the Steam Website:

Re: Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

    Hi,
When a few days ago I managed to connect to steam, I looked for something to click on called update to Blitz, saw nothing, saw a load of Desert War (DW) Tobruk images, various update numbers for DW and other things, and a £55 fee,
but having no interest in the desert and being told one just needs to update Blitz to get the V5 changes that had been carried over to Blitz as well, or specific changes on faults in Blitz, I didnt commit to £55.
I saw in my Library Cliffs of Dover and Cliffs of Dover Blitz, being told that would get me V5, I downloaded to a new folder on my D drive and installed the vanilla then the Blitz, and I am flying Blitz v5.015 now according to the number bottom right

Am I as such with all that I should have for Blitz by doing so ?

I was told there would be a flyable wellington but its not there. I see other lighting changes so its definitely different, but is there more that only £55 will bring to Blitz ? I was told for owners v5 was free.

    Cheers

Current Version number of BLITZ is 5.015, but that does not give you all the material created for TF 5.0 DESERT WINGS - TOBRUK for free.

In BLITZ You got improved AI, improved graphics, overall improved flight models and damage models and various other things. You will eventually get the new trueSKY weather and cloud systems. You were never promised a flyable Wellington for free.

If you want the new map plus all the new aircraft, as for example the Wellington IA, IC, IC torpedo, all the new vehicles and ships, then you need to buy TOBRUK.

Re: Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

    Hi,
I wouldnt mind flying a 1940 European theatre marked wellington on a daylight raid across the channel in the Battle of Britain fending off Me109Es (Airfix box art )
If I bought Tobruk purely for the wellington would it appear in my Blitz flyable aircraft list, and be able to have BoB period markings as thats where I want to fly it ?
Could I load it up etc, have BoB period crewmen and go bomb Heligoland Bight area, or in dark, have a go at the barges in the channel ports ? Would it take on all the Blitz available properties, parked on UK airfield, bomb trolleys, aircrew in BoB bomber gear , be available for Mission creation ?

The new vehicles and ships, are they only if I fly over sand or are they suitable and would they be there without me lifting a finger, in the BoB channel area ?

New map, is this of Tobruk or changes to the BoB channel UK/France map ?

As I say I have no interest in sand and flying the desert campaign but wish in Blitz for a flyable Wellington, also Dornier Do17Z (a real gap in BoB CoD), Hampden and an Anson in BoB CoD.

As TF have taken the existing Wellington and added the ability for us to fly it (many thanks TF), given the lessons learned, how far off are we from ditto to the Dornier Do17Z as that really is a crying shame we cant take it on raids. Imagine leading the raid on Kenley, low level. What a gap in CoD it is. Also wish to get rid of those awful lump hammer marks called rivets. I would pay £55 just for a Dornier !

What does one do, select the folder that Vanilla and Blitz 5.015 were newly installed to by Steam and install Tobruk there, then the wellington hops across into the Blitz folder ? and stills taken go into 1C Softclub Blitz (file ending in word Dover) screenshots folder ? or does one select the Blitz folder and we get Blitz and DW all in one folder, then wellington hasnt got to make its way into the Blitz folder, it is part of new Blitz ?

TOBRUK is a dlc... it is an addon to BLITZ. So once you buy TOBRUK and install it, when you launch BLITZ all the TOBRUK material is included.

Yes, the new aircraft, ships and vehicles are available on the Channel map when you buy TOBRUK... (if you build missions or use the appropriate in game missions which include them) Please note there are two types of aircraft... temperate and tropical... the tropical aircraft versions have sand filters and graphics changes and they have lower performance due to the additional drag and the reduced engine performance from the filters.

Re: Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

    Hi,
    I will buy Tobruk.

Now I need to be sure I install it correctly, the other day when I updated Blitz, I ended up installing vanilla then blitz to a totally new location, D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover and was flying 5.015 from there and I did not install to existing D:\Steam
Then when I connected to Steam next day it also then updated Blitz4.53 within D:\Steam, giving me 5.015 twice and nuking 4.53. As I need to still run 4.53 for testing my skins and comparison to see if they are still showing ok in 5.015, I replaced that in D:\Steam with 4.53 and can now fly either.

So I need to have my 5.015 to take on the Tobruk goodies, so when it asks me to browse to where I want to install it, do I choose folder D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover or do I browse within that and select the Blitz 5.015 folder ?

Read the 'Getting Started and Troubleshooting Guide'.... it is in your main BLITZ folder inside 'manuals'.

    HI,
Ok read that, it says choose the drive to install to,
Then it says once installed go to Steam website and click play.

It’s the bit in-between I need to know about, and it says nothing.
Nothing about where it is going to install it to, what its going to replace.
    i.e. doesn’t answer my question.

Following a new install last week at D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover I have in that folder Blitz 5.015 and fly it using desktop shortcut it created.
In that folder is Steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz and also in there is IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover

I also have from years ago, D:\Steam inside which is Steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz which is 4.53 and also in there is IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover

Steam when online managed to seek out and destroy 4.53 in there, so I had to put it back again. It is essential I can fly 4.53 for skin testing and comparison else if my skins I am creating with ACCURATE rlm colours look wrong I wont know if its 5.015 messing them up or what ! So far things are looking somewhat darker and the glazing is most peculiar and non photo realistic, Harry Potter has been at it.

In the pdf manual you refer to It simply says choose a drive, I always install CoD to D, so if I click on D…

Will it look for the D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover which was its first install of a completely new Blitz 5.015

    Or
will it instead seek out D:\Steam and place DW into that alongside vanilla and Blitz 4.53 and no doubt update 4.53

    or
Is it going to create yet another folder and install Blitz then yet again then DW ?

or do I tell it where on D drive to go, and browse it to the newly created location D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover from last week which is where I want it to go ?

I don’t want it removing 4.53 which is in D:\Steam but I have a horrible feeling it looks for Steam folder, and will destroy 4.53 when at the moment I fly 5.015 from the new folder and 4.53 from Steam.

    It just doesn’t say.

I asked Steam support and they havent answered, they misinterpret questions and said ask the developers if the wrong version installed and closed the support case !

I never said a wrong version installed, .

    They also said:-
With regards to the original Cliffs of Dover, given your mention of "Team Fusion", you will want to be sure that you have opted that game into the "teamfusionupdate" beta branch. You can do this by right clicking on the game and selecting properties. Within the properties window, navigate to the betas tab and select "teamfusionupdate" from the dropdown.

I dont see that in the pdf.

Also as the pdf says click play on the steam website after install, does having DW mean we cant launch Blitz from the desktop shortcut anymore, and have to have steam online, or is that just an initial play to set things up, then we can operate from the desktop thereafter, as I have steam set to offline so it cant mess up 4.53 and dont want to online it and launch Blitz from their website each time.

Harry Potter has been at it.

\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz\manuals Getting Started And Troubleshooting Guide.pdf page 7 says:

Once Desert Wings - Tobruk is installed on your PC,
    Launch Steam,

"Then it says once installed go to Steam website and click play."

No, you should press play on the Steam application on your pc, not anything on the Steam website. It's a great game, you'll love it. Come and fly online with us its a blast we don't care about army clothes when we're having fun!

Hmm, I can't find that, Bondi.

What I see on Page 7 is:

"Once Desert Wings - Tobruk is installed on your PC,

    Launch Steam,

    Go to Library (red arrow),

Select IL-2 Sturmovik: Desert Wings - Tobruk from the left hand column (green arrow),

    Click on Play (yellow arrow).

Congratulations, Desert Wings - Tobruk is now installed and you're ready to fly!"

    Am I missing something???

Perhaps it was not clear to you Snapper that the post I made referred to what BOBC was saying:

    BOBC
Just pointing out to BOBC that BOBC needs to be clicking on Steam app not WEBSITE. BOBC claims to have already read the manual section that you quote here but also appears to have misinterpreted what was written. BOBC claims the manual directs a user to click on the Steam website. This is wrong, it does not.

If the admins here can get BOBC squared away and ready to fly that would be a real service to the rest of the community. My last post on this subject Snapper.

Re: Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

    Hi,
someone must know where it goes and what gets changed.
I and others that care about their PC, that dont just let loose installers on their PC which can do harm, need to know where to select when asked to browse to an install location.
Just where an install goes and what it might remove.

see my post, and in summary:-

Do I just click D drive or a folder on D drive ?

clicking just D, will it look for the D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover which was its first install of a completely new Blitz 5.015 last week

    Or
will it instead seek out D:\Steam and place DW into that folder alongside vanilla and Blitz 4.53 and no doubt update 4.53 ( bad as I need to fly 4.53 as well as 5.015 after getting DW)

    or
Is it going to create yet another folder on D drive root and install Blitz yet again then DW ? (no room for a third Blitz)

    OR...
do I tell it where on D drive to go, and I would browse it to the newly created location D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover from last week which is where I want it to go ? but it might then stick a Steam folder in there and install Blitz and DW into that, which is a real mess then as then I have Steam folder twice on D drive, one at root and one in there.

I want it to add DW to D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover and thats all.

I don’t want it removing 4.53 which is in D:\Steam but I have a horrible feeling if I select D drive it looks for Steam folder, and will destroy 4.53 in there when at the moment I fly 5.015 from the new folder and 4.53 from Steam.

It just doesn’t say what to select and what folders and addresses you end up with, and I need to know.

I asked Steam support and they havent answered, they say ask the developers if the wrong version installs, when I didnt say wrong version installed, they are not much use !.

I thought that screenshot with arrows was Steam website, so we launch from desktop shortcut then, but my shortcut normally plays the game, it never go to a webpage lookalike, whatever it is, such as that, partly because I have Steam set to Offline !
I need Blitz with Tobruk updates in it ( I want the flyable wellington) to play without having to set Steam to online.

    BOBC

P.S I have a lengthy explanation on what BoB is good at and its different things to different people, but if I post it now it will detract replies from the immediate mission above, but would help explain to Bondi etc what and why the above is about. It is best placed for another thread perhaps, about ground doesnt matter, photo realism and correct looking aircraft and other items.

Re: Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

With all respect, you seem to want to care about your pc and your installs, you ask questions I answered already, but you still never follow my steps I posted across all the threads you opened for whatever reasons and then you keep mess up your installs.
I told you to not use the game folder name all the stuff gets placed inside that folder and no surprise, exactly that happend to you.
I told you to rename your older versions and yet you kept the name, what happend? Your game got updated.

Here comes the step by step instructions for you.

To see which folder of Steam will get updated,
go to Steam settings > Steam Library Folders
only games with the original folder name, will get updated, if you add the version number to the end for example, the name has changed so it won't get updated.

Your steam folders are listed here.

    Picture shows "F:\Program Files (x86)\Steam"
and games will be in"F:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common"
Steam will check these folders inside "\steamapps\common" for existing game folders before installing a game.

Tobruk will be installed where you installed Blitz for Steam
To check, what folder steam currently uses for your game and which will be updated > click "Browse" to see which folder steam currently has installed your game and this game inside this folder will get updated, if you buy and download Tobruk, it will also be right there.

If you buy tobruk DLC, you will see the option here in your game properties under "DLC":

    If you have Tobruk installed.
You simply launch the original "Blitz"
    Theres no seperate game.

I hope this finally answeres your questions.

Re: Where do I get to download and install V5 for Battle of Britain ?

    Hi,
Now thats what I have been wanting to see, THANK YOU. (wish we had an icon leaping up and down with glee, )

By the way what name would you have given to the folder on D drive where Steam installed vanilla then Blitz to a week or so ago ?

I didnt want it going into D:\Steam as in there was Blitz 4.53, but quite right I forgot to suffix name the little blighter, and so when I next went live online to steam a day later it then attacked that one in D:\Steam as well.

However I backed up everything before doing the 5.015 first update and just reinstated it back in to D:\Steam
I run 5.0215 from the D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover.

Now to tidy things up I could delete whats in there, and go to Library and re-install vanilla then Blitz 5.015 to D:\your suggested name , perhaps it could be D:\Blitz5.xandDW
A name though that shows me what the folder is all about.

I dont want it going into D:\Steam as I fly 4.53 from there.

I have those in D:\steam protected with names:-
IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz_4.53removeBeforeFlight
    IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover_removeBeforeFlight

I have 1C softclub folders on C drive named :-
    il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover_RemoveBeforeFlightOfBlitz4.53
    il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover_RemoveBeforeFlightOfBlitz5.015

and I have to remember to place those red flappy dangly things back on after flight !

Any updates I want I remove them accordingly.

    Cheers

    BOBC
