    Coming soon: Tobruk Siege

    Hi Folks,

in the next hours my first multiplayer-mission will be launched on Team Fusion #3.

It's a non-historic Tobruk-scenario with Tobruk under siege by the Blues.

The mission is based on Team-Fusion Code by Artist.

I will post the briefings soon.

Have fun and report issues here.

    Re: Coming soon: Tobruk Siege

    Technical question about the NDB-beacons:

There are emitting stations on both the red and the blue side.
I was flying a Ju88 and tried to tune into the frequencies of the red beacons, but could not lock any.
    Is this normal?
In theory when you enter the correct frequency you should be able to get the signal no matter what the nationality of the transmitter equipment is. I mean in 1941 these were pretty basic NDBs, right?

This is correct. NDBs can be neutral too.

    Re: Coming soon: Tobruk Siege

In theory yes, but from most of books I read would suggest these things in practise would only have been turned on when requested and correct morse daily code from the observer/pilot/radio op. They werent turned on and left for all. I would guess that would be same for both sides. The British were using the same Lorentz type system as the Germans although no doubt you could modify it, but in those days not easily or quickly and certainly not "on the fly".
But when we gonna get the 6 spec ops wellies that were out there jamming//spoofing radio comms and NDB rf frequencies during 41?

    Hi Noofy,

to be honest, I tried to setup this NDBs as found here in the forum. I got some information from Spiritus, too. It is possible, that the NDBs are not correct implemented by me, will try to get more information about them and hopefully fix them!

Edit: Had to read it again to understand, that the blue NDBs are working for the blues but not the red NDBs. I read (or heard from Spiritus, not sure), that the red NDBs won't work in the game anyway. I implemented on both sides (just in case), but forgot at all to test any of them...

    Re: Coming soon: Tobruk Siege

The NDB frequency setup above looks OK to me. Bear in mind that there are two beacons, with different ranges. The short range one is for airfield beacons. The long range one covers almost the whole map.

I usually start the LW frequencies at 302 and go up by two. For the RAF I start at 298 and go down by two. Please don't leave them at 300, the default.

Red, blue or neutral works the same. We don't have any red aircraft with working instruments yet.

    Hmm...

    So two possibilities:
    1. Either the NDBs you used are short range NDBs and I was too far away (I can't remember how far I was from the red NDBs when I tried)
    2. Or the red NDBs do not function (like you read from Spiritus, but contradicting Oskar's statement)

Looks like this needs more testing...

EDIT: I remember that the blue NDBs were not readable from very far as compared to the NDBs on other maps, so it may be the range thing... Short ranged airfield NDBs are nice to have to retrieve the airfield when coming back home at night, but what really helps navigating in the desert are long range NDBs. I think their range is around 150km, so 2-3 disposed in a triangle should suffice on each side.

EDIT2: correction, long range NDBs reach ~150 miles, that is ~240km

I have not tested the airfield beams, but I am quite sure I lose the long range beam signal at about 240-250km...

    Re: Coming soon: Tobruk Siege

I'm collecting the issues of this mission and will fix them soon, so Artist hasn't to change the server's files that often.

@Noofy and Oskar: These long range NDBs have been placed to some prominent points, I think? Haven't any idea, would place them near bigger cities (when I find some on the Tobruk-map )

    Re: Coming soon: Tobruk Siege

    v.-1.1.12 online since yesterday:

    - added long range NDBs on both sides (see ingame briefing for frequencies)
    - changed fighter AI to "free hunt" throughout their whole flight (was on "normal flight" some waypoints, so they won't react on being attacked)
    - specified achievable points for convoys (10 pts. for destroying the whole convoy)
    - some minor changes

    Re: Coming soon: Tobruk Siege

I see you have changed briefing to say 100points are required to win (from 150 in the orginal post in thread), however last twice I played, it was won with clearing 80 (3 airfields, S armoured column and seaplanes at Gazala - is this correct now?

    Re: Coming soon: Tobruk Siege

    Thank you for your post:

The briefing is what I wanted, the script was something different.

Sent a corrected mission to Artist, will be online in the next days.

Will actualize the briefing posts above.

I have some questions: After what time was the map won? How many players online on which side? How many bombers/fighters active?

    Re: Coming soon: Tobruk Siege

If you mean my post Matkenhaus, I am no longer sure, but I believe I was the last there. AI had destroyed the airfields, and I took out the armoured convoy, although sure it is only giving 20points not the 24 as listed in the briefing. But cannot remember if I had done the seaplane target or someone else. Also played it last night, also won with 80points, another guy killed an airfield (to finish it), ai a couple more and again I did the armoured convoy.

    Re: Coming soon: Tobruk Siege

This morning we wiped out Sidi Rezegh and then charged to attack Tmimi oil harbour.

Afterwards we even had a nice swim in the blue Mediterranean waters ...
    Was good fun!

If I would have known that both Dostal and you had such a enormous breakfast before our flight I would have never picked you up in my single engined Wellington, impossible to keep it flying on one engine with that overload conditions
But it was a very gentle ditching...
