    D 520 Help

    Hey,

I finally got around to purchasing Desert Wings.

I got into the D 520 and I realized I didn't know any of the instrumentation. Is there a guide for the plane?

I also noticed I can only choose the D520 as either UK or German. Is there a way to get it as a "French Plane?"

    Thanks

    Hey, mate

Where your game is installed, go to (here's the full path) \\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz\manuals\aircraft

There you will find flashcards explaining how to do the procedures. Remember that in Blitz/Tobruk all flyable planes have interactive mouse clickable cockpits with mouse over readings for some virtual study!
Not everything is clickable, but the basics for taking-offs, landings, and engine management and a lot more is there.

About selecting sides for the D520...

Maybe you are just trying the plane on the Quickmissions area.
There the missions have pre-selected sides and planes. But you can swap the planes on the quickmissions anytime, but not their sides.

There is a full campaign for the D520 you can try and lots of single missions. Here on this forum you can find lots of single-player missions created by the community as well, look for the "Downloads" section on the top of this forum.

For full customization, you can even create your own mission using the Full Mission Builder under "Extras" ingame. There's a huge library of assets inside the FMB you can play with and even more maps, this game is a huge sandbox, you know.

There are some cool Youtube videos on how to use the FMB out there.

I saw "Shenzen" on your profile description and thought...
"If he's Chinese he will be even happier with a manual in Chinese", lol

Strange, you should have this folder inside your install, mate

    - Have you verified your install?

    - Where did you purchase and install the game? What language version?

Yeah, verifying the files was my attempted remedy. I purchased the product key via IL2 webstore, but I downloaded it on Steam. I always have my VPN on when I download, so it is set for US and English.

    ---

I was able to download a PDF of the flashcard via the above link... but the mystery continues on why the folder is missing.

It is also accessible from within the game.
In Main Menu, go to Extras then Manuals.

    Hi there PinkPanther,

I saw from this screenshot you uploaded the dates of your files and they are from 2019, we have had several updates already, its been nearly a year that your files are not updated,

Could you please do me a favour and make sure that this is the exact folder and path steam uses to update and install games?
By the looks of it, it seems as this folder is an older copy, the one where you launch from Steam should be the correct one.
You can open the game files direclty from Steam, right click on the game > click on properties > local files > browse local files, this will take you right to where the game is installed.

These are my files, 26.11.2020 latest update.

    Re: D 520 Help

Wow, that is super weird. Steam created the folder "SteamLibrary" because I have a dual processor laptop. (SSD and a HDD) Initially Steam wanted to download on the much smaller SSD, so when I changed it to the largr HDD that's when it created that folder. I upgrade the size of the SD+SD and so I had to redownload all of my games. I am guessing the second time around, it created another folder.

Mystery solves. Thanks for everyone's help. Much appreciated!

Quick second question,... Is there a resource that helps read the different gauges? I am not sure I understand them all very well. I used to flying 109s.

    Re: D 520 Help

Reading the D.520s gauges should be easy when coming from the 109, both countries used the same (metric) system so km/h, m, m/s etc.
Even the boost gauge on our D.520 reads ata which might be an error. So far I've always seen engine boost in french manuals and test reports stated in mmhg, not ata.

    Re: D 520 Help

The metric part is not difficult even though I am an American, have lived overseas long enough to know the system almost as well as the English system.
I didn't realize I could mouse over the gauges, so now I know what they are. However, there are two of them that list as "Velocity."

The temps and pressure are actually easy enough to read, though not "color coded" like the 109. The Germans did that part right. Anyway the two velocity gauges and one gauge that looks like a climb rate gauge.

In the D520 you have 3 "speed indicator" gauges:

    1. To the right, the Vertical Speed Indicator, which gives you the rate of climb (or descent) in meters per second. It goes from -12 m/s to +20 m/s.
    2. In the middle, the normal Indicated Air Speed, in km/h. It can do two turns, the first up to 450 km/h, the second up to 700 km/h
    3. To the left, a "demultiplied" Indicated Air Speed which goes from 60 to 200 km/h for a more accurate reading of slower speeds.

    D520.jpg

The latter is used for example when taxiing, taking off, or landing. Remember that you are close to stall speed when the needle points to the 12:00 position.

    French engineering...

I figured it was a typo. Everything has a "0" at the end.
