    Hi Folks

Just saying hello and a happy new year to all. I am retired and I live in Adelaide. I just got my CLOD Blitz running. I reckon will get that Desert add on too. I played IL2 1946 many years ago as a He111 pilot and I am thinking that although very rusty I might go down the bomber road again. I almost gave up on this game till Buzzsaw helped me out with some joystick installation issues.

    Hi Baxter

Good to meet you and great to see yet another player from down under joining the fun . Desert Wings is a splendid add on to what is already a great sim . The new flight models can also be used on some of the channel maps such as TWC's fantastic campaign maps .

If you're a bomber fan then there are plenty of new types to get your teeth into along with the older more familiar ones . The single player campaigns are more varied and of course multiplayer is very popular , certainly my favourite . If you're going to use multiplayer I would recommend you install voice comms such as TeamSpeak . This is the easiest way to get to know other players who can help you to solve any problems or other info you may need to help you on your way . Good luck with it

    Hi there Baxter,
All the best to you too. I’m in Melbourne and wish I was retired! I reckon go for it with the Desert Wings expansion. It’s worth every penny with a great plane set and the Wellington is great fun to fly if you’re interested in bombers. Hope to see you in skies and on Teamspeak soon.

Hey, Baxter........big welcome to the ATAG Forum and servers! Delighted to have you join us! Great to hear (but no surprise) that Buzzsaw managed to 'save the day' with your joystick problem but we are particularly pleased that it means you can now stick around and enjoy this magnificent sim with us. Many of us are also retired or at least 'old enough to know better!' This sim is quite complex...like and onion it has many levels and there is a huge amount that can be learnt. You can fly on a fairly simple level or dive deep in the complexities of the sim! I think that's what often appeals to us older types!

There are a whole bunch of us who are currently attempting learn the Wellington bomber and the art of high altitude bombing. We had a formation of nine Wellingtons that hit Caffier airfield in northern France....and we knocked it out! The defensive fire from our combined defensive armament was really something to see! We use the new aircraft Flashcards to get started (Found 'in game' in: Main Menu, Options....) and then experience and practice will kick in! We hope! We use Team Speak to communicate, chat and get very silly....and the good news is...it's free! There is info on how to install Team Speak in our Technology section.

It's still early days....so if you would like to join us in our unofficial bomber wing...please do! I'm not sure when we will be flying again but Bubbadeluxe and Slot are planning some more Wellington training sessions so keep an eye out for new posts from them! Hope you can join us. Do let us know how you get on! Good luck and......Salute!

    Re: Hi Folks

    Hi Baxter
Welcome to a really friendly bunch and some of the best flying and fun in the air you can have.
I can heartily recommend the DW Tobruk add on as it gives you loads of extra great red (and blue) planes plus the Wellington bomber which we have been having some group training sessions to try and wing up for altitude bombing.
I think Tobruk is still on Steam sale and is worth every £/$.

Several of us including myself and Bubbadeluxe have only just started multi player and the guys here have made us really welcome.

We are all learning and have met up on Teamspeak to get together. We have tried to pick suitable best times due to the time zones and a lot of the Aussie flyers have an early start whilst us Poms have late nights. Keep an eye out on the forum as we are trying to arrange some time to work alongside the livestreams run by Pattle (which are great fun to join in and were my first introduction).

Don't worry about skill levels, only last night i managed to crash on take off during the nine bomber meet so ended up being 109 canon fodder on the way to target as i belatedly tried to catch up.
I managed a flight to a secondary target with Pattle who skillfully hit the target whilst I got shot up again and spent some good R&R with the resistance in an occupied hayloft.

The flashcards are a great introduction and some key binding will come in useful on some of the bomber controls. We can talk you though these as everyone has different set ups.

Real life can get in the way but keep an eye on the forum for any potential meet ups.
As Marlow says the sim is like an onion and some of us have to keep it simple but you can lose yourself in the complexities.
    Look forward to flying soon.

Hi Baxter, and welcome to our community, and of course Cliffs of Dover Blitz.

The DWT expansion is most certainly worth investing in with so many new flyable types, and of course the new Tobruk desert map.

As you are a bomber pilot, be prepared to be amazed at the incredible flyable Wellington (Included as a non flyable aircraft in the original Cliffs of Dover and Blitz edition) The guys at Team Fusion simulations have done a great job with this, with what many consider to be the best and most detailed cockpit in game.

A few of us are trying to get a bit of a Wellington squadron going, and you are more than welcome to join us.

Happy New Year to you sir. Good to have you with us

    Re: Hi Folks

Hi again guys and thank you for the great welcome. I am a bit further advanced now. Day one was get the joystick working with the game. Today was buy and install Desert Wings and set up key bindings. Tomorrow I was hoping to find a game server that has a ping of less than 226 which is the lowest one listed if I click on multiplayer in the game. Anyone know of an aussie server running our game? when I run speedtest it comes up with a ping of 7 connecting to a server in my CBD of Adelaide. I am thinking 226 would not be usable.

    Hey Baxter.

I'm in New South Wales. Your ping is very normal for us Aussies. You wont even notice it in game.

Just get stuck in and have fun. If you need a hand with anything, happy to jump on comms and help you out.

    Cheers,

    Pattle
