    Hello! Bonjour! Guten Tag!

    Greetings all!

Just sending a quick hello to everyone here. A bit about myself: I've been flightsimming since 1983 when I started with subLOGIC's Flight Simulator by Bruce Artwick for Apple //e. I still have the 5-1/4" floppy disc, manual, & colour-matched ziplock bag from Computerland. The most advanced flight simulator that I 'flew' was a USAF F-4E Phantom simulator at our local airbase. It used a mainframe which filled an entire room and had 2 air conditioners just to keep the hardware from overheating. Super duper fun, that!

Twenty-five years ago, I had the pleasure of befriending a retired RCAF/RAF pilot who flew photo-recon Spitfires during WWII. The stories he told were more fascinating than anything produced by Hollywood at the time. We would often sit in his den and watch an old, grainy VHS copy of BBC's "Piece of Cake". Every time I fly a Spitfire in a flightsim, it's difficult not to think of him. He was a great man and a good friend.

I promised a quick hello, so I'll stop here.

    With Kindest Regards,
    Buzz73

    Welcome Buzz73,

We have had quite a number of new players join the forum of late, which is great to see.

If you check out any of the latest threads, you will see a number in relation to the newly formed Wellington pilot group.

They are looking for pilots to fly fighter escort with them. If you are interested, check them out and join in their next raid. A squadron of Wellingtons, all with human pilots is a sight to see, and protect.

    Cheers,

    Pattle

Hi Buzz73.......welcome and thanks for sharing a great first post with us.

Many of us here are of a 'certain age' and have had the pleasure (and the luck) to meet some famous aviators. I met Geoffrey Wellum, (I have a signed copy of 'First Light') Billy Drake, 'Cat's Eye's Cunningham, Vivian Snell, Tom Dalton-Morgan and Gunther Rall a few years ago.....and although I only spoke to them very briefly, that, together with watching them interact with others, was enough for anybody to see that they had a certain something....a special quality, determination, drive....that no doubt helped them to survive the war, and lead others so succesfully in the struggle. Amazing individuals! So sad to think they are all gone now....a unique generation which must not be forgotten!

Like you, I have been messing about with flight sims for years. My first was 'Flying Corp,' followed by 'Jane's Fighters,' 'B17' ( could never get the bomber to drop bombs when I wanted it to?) 'European Airwars' and finally 'Il2 Sturmovik.' Then I discovered that people appeared to be flying together on line...cooperating...as in real life and that led to me discovering the ACG vid 'The Beginning of the End' and, having gawped at that a few times, I knew I had to buy a computer that could run 'Cliffs of Dover!' I managed that in 2015 and just have not looked back! I found this Community very welcoming and only too keen to help newcomers. During the lockdowns the ability to go on line and chat to my fellow sim-pilots has been a real boon....probably a bit of a life saver!

I'm still learning. My skills in the Spitfire still rise and fall...good days and bad.... but I love the navigation and constant battle to get the best out of the aircraft and stay alive, exactly as the brave men of 1940 did. Currently, I'm trying to learn the Wellington bombsite and the art of high level bombing. I am hoping to be joining in with the new Wellington initiative that Pat' mentions above. So now is a great time to join and get stuck in, either as a bomber pilot or an escort pilot. We're all learning together. Many of our bomber pilots are new to the sim and are just finding their feet so you will definitely not feel the odd man out! We spend most of the sortie laughing but the amount of tonnage on target will grow I'm sure! The new Wellington aircraft has provided us with a new dimension to 'Cliffs of Dover' and we're going to make the most of it!

Get stuck in Buzz! Good luck with your 'setting up.' Don't forget to ask for help...we have experts galore who love to help...it's what we like to do!

Looking forward to meeting you in our Clod skies soon. Oh by the way......if I drop passed you in the air.......at 14 000 feet...... for God's sake reach across and pull my ripcord, there's good Chap! Salute!

    Re: Hello! Bonjour! Guten Tag!

    Hallo Buzz73,
    and "herzlich willkommen".
You made the right choice - this is a nice place to be. I made the experience that all kinds of pilots are very welcome here, no matter where they are from, no matter how experiences they are in flightsim, no matter if they prefer bomber or fighter, red or blue side. And even my english is far away from fluid, I was always welcomed very gently online and on the english tongued teamspeak-channels.
It's a virtual society, where you don't need to hesitate asking questions.
Hope to see you soon in the sky!
