    Recommendations for Rudder Pedals

My old Saitek pro combats are starting to rebel. I've sprung $569 (US) for new Thrustmaster TPR pedals, but I have to wait a month for Amazon Prime delivery due to COVID 19. (Every bad thing in 2021 is due to COVID 19, you know.) Well, I have a month to cancel before they charge my card, so you all have a month to convince me of the error of my ways. What's the best high quality pedal system that's available now?

It's a heck of a way to spend my COVID 19 stimulus check, isn't it?

EDIT: This thread, suggesting I might cancel the order, was up less than two hours, when I got an email from Amazon that my Thrustmaster TPR Pedals will now arrive in only three days! I guess I'll give them a fair trial since they're on the way. At that price, you can appreciate my "Buyer's apprehension".

EDIT: Here's a comprehensive review I came across with an interesting comparison to MFG Crosswinds by user, "ZK", in the comments section at the end:

    Hi Baffin.

Have a look at Slaw Device Rudder pedals.

I purchased a set of 'RF Dora' pedals some time ago. They are expensive but are also a work of art. Hand built in Poland by Wiaczeslaw Oziablo the designer.

I don't think he makes the Dora model now and the latest model is the 'RX Viper v2' at around €430 excluding tax.

Check out the website under Slaw Device.

    Hi Baffin.

Have a look at Thrustmaster T Flight rudder pedals. I have had my pedals for a couple of years and they are still going strong. They are solid, don't move around (important) when in operation and I think they are great. They are selling here for £230 in the UK but you can get them on ebay for half that price.

    All the best.

    Re: Recommendations for Rudder Pedals

Slaw Device look great, but cost about the same considering shipping costs. International customer support can be a problem also.

Thrustmaster T flights are a good value, but I prefer more widely spaced pedals. (Personal preference only.) They are priced so as to enable replacement instead of repairs after they wear out. Get a new pair after five years instead of expecting 10 years of service from other, higher priced models.

Thanks to everyone! I think Amazon.com is monitoring this forum...

This thread, suggesting I might cancel the order, was up less than two hours, when I got an email from Amazon that my Thrustmaster TPR Pedals will now arrive in only three days! I guess I'll give them a fair trial since they're on the way. At that price, you can appreciate my "Buyer's apprehension".

I'll post a review after I get them up and running.

MFG Crosswind, I use them atleast 3 years and they still are incredible.
They include toe brakes, are extremley precise (Hall Sensors).
You can swap out different cam profiles, change the spring, adjust the distance between feet and you can adjust the toe brake angle or overall angle.
I never regret buying them. I only use a rubber carpet so they don't slip as much without a wall.
And they are made of w̶o̶o̶d̶ composite materials, so not as cold as metal types. I'm using them barefoot.

    Re: Recommendations for Rudder Pedals

I'm using MFG Crosswind pedals, as well as Tibs, and I can confirm everything he has stated above.

They are not the most expensive pedals on the market. I think the Slaw pedals, Vamps mentions, are probably the most impressive from a build point of view but look at the strength and very high spec shown in Tibson's picture! If MFG are not the best they may well be second best. I have had my pedals for over a year now. They cost £243 (Uk) or 344 Euros and came with a 2 year warrenty.

They arrived on time, were great fun to set up and my computer recognised the software immediately. Everything seemed very well designed and 'built to last.'

They have been utterly reliable ever since. Can't really say more than that! Hope this helps! Salute!

Don't remember exactly, I think it was around 350 € and it still is. Depending on your currency it is more or less than this, in the page I provided you can switch your currency easily.

MFG Crosswind - now V3 came with support for motorcycle steering damper (web site picture was not updated yet showing this upgrade), Slaw Viper RX, VirPil Ace.

    https://mfg-sim.com/en/3-rudder-pedals
    https://slawdevice.com/en/glowna/14-...ls-silver.html
    https://virpil-controls.eu/vpc-ace-c...on-pedals.html

VirPil Ace Collection came with both "Bf 109" (floating feet's) pad and the so called "combat" (heels on floor) pads (remind GA Airlines pedal).

Slaw Viper RX is "heel' on floor" and MFG Crosswind is "floating feet's".

3rd part "combat pads" are available for Crosswind, with F-16'ish and P-51'ish looking.

    Replika version: https://www.combatpedals.com/

    Rel4y version: https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/256148...omment-4537055

Cost/benefit is probable win by MFG Crosswind. All this pedals use CAM center system, a more modern and customisable system than TPR "pincer" system.

BTW - All this stuff has queue, and are made in Eastern Europe, or Europe.

I checked out MFG's, and they looked like the best deal for high quality pedals. However, they are not available at his time on any website I could find, nor could I find an expected availability date.

    Patient?

    for a whole entire week?!

Slaw does his on a rolling order fasion... you ask... he adds you to the back of the queue of whatere type hes making at the time.

I waited about 2 months for them to arrive. It was a long wait.

    no regrets at all !

Posibly a bit weird flying a hurricane with BF 109 pedals... but hey...

    Don't judge me ok !!

I think with these sorts of high end pedals with hall effect (or similar) sensors there is very little difference if any in accuracy. It comes down to cost and visuals really.

    Thurstmaster made some recently too.

    what a price !!!

    and ugly too !!

Yes, is funny see this "reviews" claiming that TPR are the way, because are like "real" pedals (since resemble Boeing or so pedals), so an Bf 109 pedal - style followed by MFG, VirPil, an specific Slaw model, are not "real" pedals?

F-16 (real) pedals not even keep foot's parallel, but twist like an A6M Zero pedal.

I am fine with my "Alien" T-Rudder pedal, the most friendly type to use, just need move the tip of foot.

Where did you read Crosswinds are made of a wood? Close book and never open again!

Seriously, the Crosswinds are CNC machined from composite material. Means they are super light, much lighter than if they were all metal and as Tibsun already said they are also customizable. I have mine now for around half a year and think they are worth every cent.

The only thing that could be better is the base. There are legs at the rear end that are supposed to provide balance and grip but there's no such thing at the front of the base which means that you have to put both your feet on at the same time or otherwise the pedals will topple. That's a bit of an annoyance and I dont see a legitimate reason why there are no supports at the front. It's the only design flaw in my eyes. See the pic for illustration (front part)

Was reading through it a long time ago, must have thought it's made of wood composite maybe because he comes from a furniture family businiss, but looking at it now, I can't find any description of what this composite is made of.

    Re: Recommendations for Rudder Pedals

I use Crosswinds . Had mine for about 12 months now and really pleased with them . I've found them so much more precise and also more adjustment available than my previous pedals . The toe brakes are also very good .

I found them a little too "flat" when placed on the floor straight out of the box . You can adjust the angle of the pedals to suit your feet but I just made a simple platform out of scrap timber . I got the angle that suits me and also prevents the pedals from moving across the floor .

What's the size of the crosswinds?

I think they are too wide to fit under my desk.
The TFRP MSRP are much narrower and might fit. Are they any good?

They are ~50cm wide with default settings, slightly wider if you decide to adjust the angle of the foot rests.

If you do not need toe brakes I can recommend the VKB T-rudder pedals.
Ca. 40cm wide and for me very comfortable to use. Do not slide as you always have your heels on the rear "pads" of the pedals and only move the T- or L-bar by pressing more or less downward.

Ideal for helicopter flying as well when we finally come to TF 18.0 Vietnam hell with the Huey included!

40cm is too wide, that's the size I have now and toe brakes would be a nice thing to have.
Those pedals were the reason, why I moved the PC place (and eventually my working place) from the desk to a small 'coffee table'. But my back starts to tell me rather urgently that I should move back and get a decent chair.

I have the MFG crosswind, they are very smooth, silent, and accurate. I previously used CH product pedals, The crosswinds are much better. I highly recommend them.

Have had my MFG Crosswinds for 1 1/2 years and love them. Set them up and they just work. Everything is adjustable, have mine screwed down inside a wooden cabinet I modified for CLOD. But you could mount them to 1/2 or 5/8 inch plywood to fit your set up. I like the feel of realism you get by involving your legs not just your toes. Best flight sim purchase I have made.

    Re: Recommendations for Rudder Pedals

Got on the waiting list for MFG Crosswinds in early June 2015, and installed my MFG Crosswind serial-number 1041 in September 2015. They have served well without further attention or maintenance apart from once pulling a clump of cat-hair out of the cam device, that was preventing accurate centering, and once adjusting the spring adjuster on the front, tightening up the response considerably when converting from Hurricane to 109 a couple of years ago... The cat survived 19 years and I expect the pedals will too.
