Re: Italian Wings Event SATURDAY February 6th h 21:00 Rome Time ( 20:00 GMT)

This was a very interesting and well thought out event. Had a really good turnout and it was great to be flying in an event that was as close to historically accurate as the sim allows it seems.

I flew gunner in Snapper Blenny and here's some screen grabs from our first 2 Blenny raids

    Slide1.JPGSlide2.JPGSlide4.JPGSlide10.JPGSlide12.JPGSlide13.JPG

Had a good time for the most part but then several of us started to have CTDs as we approached Sollum on our second raid These seemed to happen as we were approaching from east to west at low level and were able to replicate it consistently. We were in a formation of Blenny's when it first happened and i tink we all got it at about the same time.

Others player that had it tried clearing cache, verifying files etc but they still get the CTD afterwards.

Interestingly some players didnt have any CTDs it seems.

Later in the day I jumped on TFS#3 server and flew on a Tobruk MP map and flew over Sollum from the east and had no issues at all.

So it seems that there was/is something in the mission used for today's event that caused repeatable CTDs for multiple players.

This was/is a great concept and hopefully this can be fixed so we can do it again sometime soon.

Re: Italian Wings Event SATURDAY February 6th h 21:00 Rome Time ( 20:00 GMT)

I was on the blue side and never passed to the east of Sollum. No CTD and very smooth frame rate for me the entire event.

Great fun although I felt a little rusty (been offline for quite a while). Biggest frustration was when I was flying on the deck trying to escape from a Gladiator, trusting in the superior speed of the G.50 over the Glad, when I suddenly saw the Gladiator simply overshoot me as if it was going 100 km/h more than me. Something not right here. I was on full boost, rads close as much as possible, all trims finetuned, and we were flying at like 1 meter above ground (I even touched the ground with my wingtip at some point)... Definitely something not right... maybe rubberbanding? My ping was around 150 every time I checked, but I was not monitoring it constantly...

Glad you enjoyed this event. I’ve flown several missions on the Italianwings server and they were always great fun

Re: Italian Wings Event SATURDAY February 6th h 21:00 Rome Time ( 20:00 GMT)

I was one of those who had no problems at all, Jackmaxx and Snargle, whom I was flying together with for some time, did not seem to have any issues either.
On the other hand people like Pattle and several others had recurring crashes which seemed to happen whenever nearing Sollum harbor.

I am trying to collect the crash dump files from people to send them to Artist, already have sent off a couple. I've also got the mission file and server log files from the Italianwing hosts, already sent off to Artist too.
Let's see what he can find out.

Btw, Cipson mentioned that there is a bug related to the BR.20. He says when spawning into one the player explodes, and it's not only a thing on the Italianwing server. Does anyone have any similar experiences?

I justed tried on the Team Fusion #3 Server:
Spawned in a BR.20M trop and immediately sank into the ground and exploded.

I was really impressed by the amount of work that clearly went into organising this event. The general briefing, the effort to keep things as historically accurate as possible, the signup spreadsheet, and the whisper channel to keep things moving along were all great. Thanks to the guys in the Italian Wing for the event. It was great fun and your work is much appreciated. This was my first Blennie mission and it was very satisfying to see the 'Amseat No.1 airfield destroyed' signal come up on the screen. Unfortunately, the CTD's started happening in our second mission as our group of Hurribombers approached an armoured column atop the ridge near Halfaya. Hopefully the glitch can be sorted and I look forward to getting into the next event.

Yep. Same here. Spawned into BR20 at Menelao Bay on TF #3 server, Tobruk Siege mission.

Here is what is left of me

    2021-02-07_121029.jpg

Also tried in SP mode. Channel map, Upavon airfield. No problem spawning into the BR.20 nor BR.20-Trop there.
Also no problem spawning into BR.20 in SP mode (air spawn though) on Tobruk map (used "Free Flight Bardia" Quick Mission).

EDIT: Also tried to spawn in a BR.20 on a MP Channel Map. Did it on TF #1 Server, at Theville. Kaboum!

So it seems not related to map (Tobruk/Channel). And it seems to only happen in MP mode.

Regarding the crashes, I did not have any during the event but when watching the track from that one flight when almost all of the blenheim pilots had CTD I have CTD while watching this track. No idea what went wrong but it sure looks like something went wrong with the game.

Sorry I could not make it and watched some of Pattles livestream before ‘crashes’.
(Both internet and other player related!)

Fun hearing all the Welli crowd on comms and good job on the airfield.
I was with you in spirit from the safety of my bunk.
Would have liked to take the hurriFB out for another spin as never flown Bennie.

Was a bummer having the crashes during the livestream. Hopefully the issue will get identified and sorted. Great for Cipson and his crew to have 60+ people on

It was a great event, apart from the the fact I shot down a couple of Aces Bondi and OBT Mikmak and nearly got another, Karaya. Unfortunately all were friendlies, apologies to all, I think I had a couple of beers to many. As a penance I am studying aircraft ID charts today.

Well done to all who helped organise this event and took part, I am really looking forward to the next one.

Confirmed. Bug in BR.20 and Multiplayer. Working on it.

@Artist...Wow,that was quick....top work for finding the bug

Top night despite the CTD's during the second sortie, our first sortie went like a dream, the target at Amset 1 was completely destroyed without loss of any of our crews.

On the way to the target

Lovely shots Meaks. Nice to see everyone back home safe. I became lost very quickly on return and decided to land at the first airfield I saw, just happened to be Sidi Barani West 2. How lucky was that. That's my Blennie 'F-FREDDY' just above your engine taxying in. Happy days.

    Flak.

Vickers Wellington Mk1c. OJ-F P2517 'F for Freddie' of No.149 Squadron, star of 'Target for Tonight' directed by Harry Watt released in July 1941.

their Spitfire escort returned safely. One Wellington crashed on landing at Ford.

Firstly greatful to have such events to join in, the construction and organisation of which goes way over my head.

Initial Blennie run went well enough from our point of view. Then the repeated CTD following had me constantly on edge expecting them to occur at any moment near Sollum. Thus I hardly had my head in the game from then on as players relayed their position and CTD's over TS. Really a shame as the scenario is so immersive and enjoyable otherwise. Still better than last time. I'm sure the smart ones will figure it out.

I was one of those having bad problems, no CTD but just disconnect each flight. Teamspeak would go then reconnect go/reconnect and then the game. First one you can hear me report just as Pattles first flight as a glider lands. Pretty frustrating, and oddly every time I attempt Italian wings server seems to happen to me.Had hoped upgrade machine would fix it but seems not. Thought perhaps the "skins download" was taxing it as do not have issues online any where else (nor with BoX). Our internet aint reliable here (limited to about 4Mb/sec) but do not have issues elsewhere unless it goes completely.
But appreciate the amount of work that goes into this and maybe will get a successfull trip one day (or even a landing). Congrats to blennies bombing first trip.

If you can fly a Welly you can fly a Blennie Slot, they are pretty similar to fly except that the Blennie is easier, less to worry about.

    Totally agree.

There were some handy tips given earlier in this thread ie setting prop from 100% to 0% after going wheels up to save your engine from over-revving for too long. Other tips I picked up from more experienced wingmates as we flew along. My key commands for the Welly worked perfectly for the Blennie. One additional keyset I'll have to assign for the Blennie is to chose your bomb bay if you're looking to bomb in series. However, if you choose salvo - ALL the bombs get dropped anyway.

I was really impressed with the visibility from the Blennie cockpit, and even more so from the Blennie's bombaimer position - it's a flying greenhouse!!!!! Also impressed with the Blennie's speed and turn performance compared to the Welly's lumbering nature. Now...if we could just load up 18 x 250 pounders into the Blennie we'd be all set!

Yer Slotty we missed you and Laser last night.
I suffered an horrendous CTD along the coast on the second sortie. It was made worse as I had Redhead as my rear gunner so we both had an early night.

Never mind lots more adventures to come I think

Shame about the crashes, but other than that it seemed like a good event
It was a ton of fun. As already mentioned, the first mission we flew went flawlessly, taking out the Amseat airfield, then everyone returning safely. I had Ezzie flying with me as rear gunner, so I took extra care to line up my landing right on the centre line. I'm sure he didn't notice I also landed downwind and had to smartly move off the runway in the face of three Blennies rolling out toward me!

One nice thing about having a live rear gunner (with very acute spotting abilities) was getting continuous callouts of both friendly and unidentified bogeys behind us.

I think I may possibly have found the cause and, yes, it was an element in that mission: A tank. No fault by the mission makers, though.

I was able to identify the cause because of track (recording) supplied by OBT~Mikmak via Karaya to me. Thanks!

I cannot stress the importance of tracks enough: If they repeat the CTD, they are invaluable in debugging.

    Hi Artist !!
If it is further confirmed that the cause of the CTDs is a tank, if you want to tell us so so we can correct any error.
    Thanks for your help!!

    Cheers!!

I did shoot some blues as well so at least I did not discriminate between blue and red. I think that was positive.....maybe
