Battle Of Britain 1969 Movie 8mm 'making of' footage

    https://youtu.be/70TCvDJ73Ps

Texan Connie Edwards flew a lot for the film and at the end was given several Buchons and a Spit Mk 9 as payment. His collection famously sat until recent years when each was sold. Some of us will have seen the Buchons displayed at Duxford for eg.

I saw this collection of his own footage shot during filming in 1968 a couple years ago and yesterday was shocked to see it'd only had 1700+ views. Surely there's plenty of enthusiasts here that would relish seeing it. So I'm posting it. About 39 minutes edited together, with some commentary from Connie and obvious added sound effects. Not all great quality film sadly, but some unique perspectives and certainly a terrific subject matter for those of us who love these period aircraft and the film.

Put the kettle on and enjoy

These 8mm prints need to be transferred using a decent process... the job done with these is terrible. The transfer can be a lot better.

Lets also hope his Buchons get converted back to regular DB engined 109's.

Agreed the quality aint good and I'm assuming it was done long ago.

As for the Buchons I doubt we'll see DB engines used. Me 109 E-4 White 14 used to live down the road from me until that collection was sold off. I'm lucky to have seen her fly a few times. I found her years later at Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar undergoing restoration to flight and they quoted the number of serviceable DB engines being very small, and requiring more frequent specialised maintenance compared to RR types. They had to ship it to California. There is a Buchon that has both Merlin / DB engines to swap as they wish. Obviously the Merlin is the more 'economical' option. If one could ever use that term referring to the operation of vintage Warbirds. And people complained Tobruk DW was expensive hehe !

The Buchon is like plastic surgery that's gone wrong.
But a question remains : What aircraft looks like plastic surgery that's 'gone right'?

Hehe, they're still every bit as brutish, snarly and sinister looking. Then offset by the silly little radiator 'smile'. Regardless they're far better on film than any stand in Bf108 or Harvard. And in person they're a welcome sight & sound in the air compared to a 'more correct' static museum piece.

I think you need to rethink the Buchon thing. This ugly bird has long since found its place in aviation history. Not as a Warbird itself, but as one of the stars of the legendary WWII air war film that never existed before and will never be made or shown again. Bouchons are now shown in the colours of the "Battle of Britain 1969" Film at air shows and that is right and proper. Honour to whom honour belongs.

Some nice Buchon footage in this Hans Marseille biopic, and before the use of RR Merlins.

Excellent stuff Dazza, thanks for sharing!
Could imagine little better than being able to work on/fly these amazing aircraft to create a brilliant movie. Sounds like the aerial unit did have a hoot, and I can't imagine any reason why they wouldn't have
