IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs Of Dover and Desert Wings - Tobruk: Update 5.026

Greetings pilots! A new update will be released later today!

*** We now support up to 16 USB game controllers aka Joysticks (formerly 8). [Artist]

*** The Beaufighter and Wellington now have FLRC support. [ATAG_Oskar]

*** The headshake effects are now more consistent with the physical laws. [OBT~Mikmak]

*** The ingame info windows now have a new graphics option 'Large' for the engine control feedback (they were much too small for players with 4k displays). [Artist, Danperin]

*** The ingame navigation map's position is now always saved (not only when it had been closed ingame). [Artist]

*** The ingame navigation map's battle area coordinates keep being displayed when zooming out (they used to disappear at a certain level). [Artist]

*** The ingame navigation map's elements can now be displayed in layout 'Large' (they were much too small for players with 4k displays). [Artist/Danperin]

*** The steep rock walls (Tobruk) and cliffs (Channel) do not 'flicker' anymore when zooming in/out from a certain distance or 'change' when coming closer. [Artist]

*** Mission builders now have access to a field "VariantName" in AiAircraft objects. This allows them to access the names of aircraft variants for scoring and logging ("Bf 110 C-4B/trop" instead of 'tobruk:Aircraft.Bf-110C-4B_Trop). [ATAG_Oskar]

As usual, we'd like to thank all of our loyal fans who share their feedback in the various forums. Thank you for your support!

I run with DSR @ 5120x2880 on a 2k monitor, so these changes are great for me also.

    Thank you!

I appreciate your continous effort to evolve the Sim. I´m also looking forward to your TrueSky project. But there is still one thing which is nowhere in your statements mentioned. I mean the weird behaviour of the Bf 109 during takeoff. Since the Blitz update the Bf 109 is jumping and bumping over the airfield like a ship during high seas. I discussed this problem with many players, among them some real life pilots, and nobody was thinking this is physical correct. Is there any chance, that the take off behaviour of the Bf 109 will be improved in the future or must I learn to accept it?

Spit behaves so too (and always did as far as I remember). Only thing that helps is a concrete runway.

I remember Bonditaria mentioning something that might relate to this problem.

He said that during the take off run, keep the stick back a little. Not so much that she wants to take off prematurely but sufficiently to keep the wing in the best attitude to build lift. She should then lift herself off once sufficient speed has been achieved. (we were discussing how to achieve a smooth take off in the Spitfire at the time.)
The slight stick back attitude......just before you feel real resistance......works for me and really helps reduce any bounce, which in the Spitfire can rapidly build up to become almost uncontrollable. I assume everybody having different joysticks wil mean they will have to find their own 'stick back' sweet spot.

I fly the 109 very rarely so can't really comment on her take off characteristics but I always try to remember that once an aircraft has reached flying speed she will bounce if you inadvertedly hold her 'down.' Salute.

Artist, controller improvement in consecutive patches is great news, well done!

Work in this area encourages me that force feedback improvements may be coming. I'm thinking about FFB turning off while in flight leaving a limp joystick and the autocannons using the shake.ffb profile (https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.c...ad.php?t=18629).

    It works!

Using your sample mission it brought my Wellington over the Tobruk No 5 beacon every time. I’ll next be trying the Beaufighter.

I did a search but couldn’t find an operating manual, so I figured it out for myself. The FMB was my friend, I opened the Radio Wellington practice mission you provided us to get the idea, and I confess I moved the Welly’s starting point wayyyyyyy back to Bardia. This gave me a LOT of time to muck about inside the cockpit figuring things out. I had a blast.

Would you like me to flesh out an operating manual + instructional video? I would run them past you before submitting anything to Maru for inclusion into the flashcards.

BTW, I found Kendy’s encoders on the Gear Falcon Trim Box brilliant for manipulating the loop antenna, as well as adjusting the Primary and Secondary frequencies.

Ha! I figure if Oskar went to the trouble of activating this, the least I can do is write it up.

Besides, I’m very good at writing up stuff that I have no clue about.

Lightbulb Re: IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs Of Dover and Desert Wings - Tobruk: Update 5.026

Loaded up CloD - Blitz for the first time in about 6 years to see the progress, as I'm considering buying Desert Wings - Tobruk.

Two things I'm hoping Team Fusion will add in the near future is a Speed Bar similar to IL-2 Great Battles, and the ability to turn icons on and off while flying.

Add those two things, and I'm in on Tobruk, as it looks great!

    @ Bucksnort
In my opinion the speed bar is useless, you can check the speed on board like a real pilot. If you want you can get a joystick with FF and you will feel the speed in the controls. About the icons, I stopped them for more realism.
I hope that the new improvements of the game made by Team Fusion will make you spend more time playing it.

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs Of Dover and Desert Wings - Tobruk: Update 5.026

    Hi rontaila,

I spend a lot of time in external view now, so the speed bar is handy. And I like flipping the icons on and off during my flight depending on the circumstances around me. I spend very little time inside the cockpit anymore, as I really enjoy the cinematic view while en-route and during egress. Other than when taking off, fighting, landing, or performing other significant maneuvers, I'm in external view. And I don't like the Wonder Woman view, so hoping Team Fusion can add the Speed Bar and Icon switching at some point, as I would hope it would not be a big project for them. That would also align CloD more closely with IL-2 1946 and Great Battles in features.

I used to fly MP a lot, but always ended up back in the single player campaigns. I just like them best!

    Thanks for the welcome back!

Well wonder woman view instruments stay on screen when you go to outside view afaik. They take a lot of space but you cannot have everything.
