    Windows 11 Report Mandate

Mandates are just all the rage these days, so if you have installed Windows 11 for use with CLoD, I am mandating you set aside your personal liberty and report how the upgrade went.

I personally had to upgrade my BIOS to enable TPM 2.0, but that was a no-brainer (Sort of like the other recent mandaters). I need confirmation from all the risk takers out there that Windows 11 is safe and effective. So far, no booster installation is required.

My name is Baffin, and I approve this message.
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, ASUS TUF X299 MARK 1 (LGA 2066 R4), 2x 1 TB Samsung M.2 SSD 970/960 EVO. Intel Core i7 7800X, overclocked CPU: 4.4 GHz, using TPUII BIOS feature. I haven't tried it myself yet but if you do here is something to consider. If you just upgrade to Windows 11 you should be fine, but if you do a fresh install it turns on VBS (Virtualization Based Security) which can absolutely tank gaming performance. Here is an article:

    https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/...vbs-windows-11
Spec: Intel i7 6700k overclocked at 4.4 GHz, Asus Maximus VIII Hero motherboard, 32 GB Corsair Vengeance high speed DDR4 RAM, Strix GTX 1080 TI, SSD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS with center stick and extension, Saitek Pro Combat Rudder Pedals, Track IR 5, CH Throttle Quadrant, Asus Predator XB271HU monitor.

Here is some info on Windows 11. Looks like you don't really need it, for now.

Reading this article will reassure users that while VBS reduces performance in your PC, it can be turned off using Tom's Hardware procedures.

    Re: Windows 11 Report Mandate

I got it last week but I had to force the install using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant because the upgrade didn't show in Windows Update.

Having upgraded from Win7 to Win10, I always had a pet hate for the live tiles and generally "blocky" "square" Metro theme. It seemed to me at times it was more like using a tablet than a desktop PC, although to be fair, with later updates it was much improved and felt less "blocky" but still very much square

When I saw the release version of Win11 and checked out some of the videos I immediately liked what I saw, because back in the days when Win10 was considered the final windows, I often wondered whether we would get to the stage where the whole windows OS was just a single live tile, instead of a plethora of them. The tile of all being which can be anything you want it to be, just by clicking one of the corners.

Instead, we have Windows 11! And yes it has strict hardware requirements (which can also be bypassed) and some bloatware (although some including Cortana is gone) and some ridiculous ideas, like not being able to reposition the taskbar or having to click "See More" to see most 3rd party program options on a context menu. There are more but I wont go on.

The good things are the installation process which is seamless with a modern, well designed wizard to guide you through the process. As I said above, I upgraded with the assistant and it works away in the background on Win10 until its ready to restart and continue the progress which involves a few more restarts. All my files, settings and programs were unchanged and worked as normal and my chrome icon was still present sitting next to edge's all centered on the new taskbar.

The GUI is my favorite. Its much cleaner which softer rounded edges on windows and a redesigned tool bar, which replaces the ribbon bar (and hides half of the tools unless, yet again you click the "see more" dots) There is a new start menu which is clearer, showing pinned program icons and recently used items rather than live tiles. There's a new settings menu which is well laid out and in good context. A search feature which cuts out the BS and returns results in nanoseconds. A widget pane thingy to which you can add and customize widgets for weather, traffic or news and switch back and forth by means of a button on the taskbar (which can be hidden so you can forget the nightmare ever existed) Did I mention I like the centred taskbar and the new sounds?

Above all I feel like I'm using a desktop computer again and not playing with a bloody Rubik's cube or using a tablet. It feels like a return to the golden days pre Win8 when we had Luna and Aero with their spaciousness and gloss respectively, coupled with the experience gained during the Metro years, almost like the best from Win7 and Win10 combined. It probably would have made for a good Win8.

Exactly - for the time being. And if you have a AMD Ryzen processor it seems you should better wait, even the latest patches seem to not solve the problems:

For the time being, the recommendation remains to stick with Windows 10 if you primarily use the PC for gaming.

Yes. I read that support for Windows 10 ends in 2025. So... No need to rush.

FYI, it was too nice to be true, the WMR software (VR) in Win11 can not recognize the graphics driver, and can't install WMR at all. So I had to revert back to Win10.
Everything else was good in Win11, except VR.

    S!

Using Windows 11 and no issues with Blitz/Tobruk. Tracker works and average framerates are well above 100fps in 2K resolution. I like the look and feel of Win 11.
