From what I've read on the torpedoes of that time, angle was indeed critical for the detonator to work. I seem to remember in some detonators, the protruding bar even got bent if the angle was more than X degrees.
Regarding the video, it would have been hilarious it after the bounce it sank the other ship
Just another superb feature of CloD. So many details yet to be found. This was great to see, thanks for sharing.

This sim blows my mind.
The other day I was limping home with vapor for fuel and must have given her too much power and blew my governor while my Spit was coughing for gas. 2000 hours in this sim and still having things non-combat related that I've never seen happening in the flight model. Just wonderful.
Just reading on "Uboat" sim that early german torpedeos required nearly a 90 degree impact to explode, apparently the probability of duds was quiet high early in war, the thought of carrying two duds many miles, to fly through flak.....Oh! I can't go on...

Almost not worth the hustle (which is a pity)
I prefer skip bombing with 500lbs, so I have the theoretical chance to sink nine freighters in one sortie (I don't go near any warship).
You can use the 18 250lbs as well, but the ships may sink so slowly that they survive the mission restart.
U-Boats have strange self repair abilities. Happened to me several times on TWC that I bombed or shot (with 20 mm) one of those, it started to burn and smoke and after a while the smoke stopped and it happily went its way, no matter how much more I shot it. Once I dropped 9 bombs on one, got 7 times the message 'target 30% destroyed', which makes 210% if I'm not mistaken but Kaleu and his crew made it home regardless.
I have done tests with several Angles of Attack in CloD and it seems that 45° is the limit between ricochet or explosion.
During one of my attempt with 90° AoA, the targeted ship have changed his heading toward the torpedo's heading and have been able to be safe and soul thanks to the torpedo ricochet.
So now the challenge is to see how many boats you can bounce a torpedo off and sink one in the distance
