    Flight Velocity Trim Wheel Pro

Has anybody tried one of these? At $99 they are an alternative to the Saitek Cessna trim wheel, although maybe not as solid in build. Would anyone recommend them or another alternative for a desk mounted unit.

    Cheers, Scream.

I got a gear falcon Trim Box recently, it works perfectly and really adds to immersion. I would highly recommend.

I got the Gear Falcon Trim Controllers and have found them to be excellent. I chose the model with the encoders and have found a bunch of uses for them for fighters, bombers, and video-making. Very solid product at a reasonable price.

Thanks to all for the recommendation. They look like nice trim units at Gear Falcon. I'd never heard of this seller before, nice to know they make good quality gear.
Just out off curiosity, what are the small white triangle pieces for?

That shows the current trim setting.

I also have one of these and it's built like a tank.

Authentikik "Lego" P-40 Trim Wheels looks interesting:

    https://youtu.be/FoYRlHgnMdY?t=1169

They have individual wheels for elevator and rudder for Spitfire.

But this 3 axes from Falcon Gear is a better and practical option.

The Authentikit trim modules are a nice design, and they use encoders, whereas the Gear-Falcon models use potentiometers. The nice thing about using encoders is that you don't have to zero your trim when you spawn in...you automatically start at zero trim. The only problem is that you can't incorporate any kind of indicator to show the trim status. Also, (correct me if I'm wrong), I think encoders only allow you to alter trim in 5% increments, whereas potentiometers are close to infinitely variable, and depending on gearing, can make much finer adjustments. I may use encoders for trim in some future designs, but I generally prefer potentiometers.

Re: Flight Velocity Trim Wheel Pro

Just received my trim unit from Gear Falcon, safely packaged and intact.
For anybody thinking about getting one of these units, go for it!
The quality is outstanding. The photos on the website don't do it justice. It looks fantastic, nice heavy feel and the trim wheels are well made and have a nice resistance. Also comes with a sturdy USB cable.
This is a must have if you are looking for a trim wheel set.
Well done Gear Falcon. Absolutely superb.

Re: Flight Velocity Trim Wheel Pro

I've posted this in another thread, but if you're looking for a Cessna-style elevator trim, I just released my own version. It comes in several varieties, with/without USB controller, panel mount or clamp-on desk mount:

I'm running out of the components I need to build these, so there will only be a few more made. That said, I'm working on a new version using a different MCU, and hoping to have it available within the month. If you're looking for the black right-hand models, I will be making a few more in the next couple days, just let me know what you're looking for and I can speed it up.

    ***EDIT***

Forgot to mention... I've started making my individual trim wheels with built-in controllers, so if you are a DIYer you an install these into your cockpit... just plug them in and away you go!

Thanks Kendy. I was thinking of getting a second unit with the encoders, black right hand version.
The new design looks good. Worth waiting for the new version?
    Cheers, Scream.

Functionally, the new version will be identical to the old version. It will be a single PC Board instead of 2 PCBs, so it will be easier for me to assemble. Size-wise, it will be pretty close to the same size...a few millimeters taller, about the same width, and a few millimeters less in depth. As you can see from the blow-up picture, the top will slide in from the back, and the assembly screws will be on the sides, so if you wanted you could screw the base to your tabletop (putting holes in the chassis voids the warranty, though) then reassemble the top onto it. I'll be coming out with a "Lite" version first, with no switches or encoders, followed by a "Plus" version, that comes with 4 encoders. Lastly, there will be a "Standard" version that comes with 3 SPDT switches. That version will come later... I can't find a good source for toggle switches under $4 each ($12 for 3 switches? I don't think so!), so I'll have to design my own external switch mechanism that will actuate tactile switches mounted to the PCB.
Anyway, up to you. Prices will likely be about the same... aiming for $69 for the Lite, $79 for the Standard, and $89 for the Plus.
