    Evening All

Hello there I'm Emulatrix an older gamer (in my 50s) who is only just getting started with Flight Sims now my kids are a little older and I can have a bit of me time. Steep learning curve for someone my age but, I am certainly determined to give it my best shot

    Welcome!
There are lots of older players that are playing this game. Many of us grew up hearing stories about the war from those directly involved in it. It is a part of our history too.
    You are not alone.

    Welcome to the forum, Emulatrix.

The learning curve is indeed steep, but the rewards are great as you will find. The important thing is to have fun and not get frustrated or discouraged as you progress. Age-wise you’re in good company. Awhile back we ran an informal poll and found the average age here was 42. I’m 68 and still get a thrill as I roar down an airfield in a Spitfire, desperately trying to gain altitude to intercept an incoming horde of bombers while keeping my head on a swivel for escorting 109’s diving out of the sun!

Be sure to stop by often and please don’t hesitate to ask any questions that come to mind. That’s what we’re all here for.

    Cheers,

    Snapper

Thanks for the kind words of support and encouragement chaps. Sounds like I have found the right group both in terms of age and more importantly a welcoming, helpful approach. Look forward to the challenge and getting involved with the community.

    'A welcoming, helpful approach.'

Ha ha! You've 'hit the nail on the head' there, Emulatrix! I think that sums up this unique Community of ours perfectly!

'In my 50's!' Why you...young whippersnapper, you! I'm 64 (Oh God...65 on December 28th!) ...and some of us here would give our eyeteeth.....ten thousand feet........ and our wives........... to be in our 50's again!

(Actually..... cancel that bit about the wives! She's just come in! Ssshhh! Aside:
'What's that, Love? You want the bin taken out and the garage sorted? No problem! I'm on it.....nearly finished here.....five minutes! Honest!)

I've been flying Cliffs since 2015 and I'm still 'having a ball'...... still learning. As Snapper says, yes, it is a very difficult sim to learn but with it's superb damage and flight modelling, plus the continued promise of more 'toys' from TFS, it's got to be a winner! I have no need to go anywhere else.

As the other guys have said, do post in this Forum if you have problems or questions. Also, if you would like to meet up on line for a chat and a free tour of the various servers and front line airfields of Kent, I'm your man. Just download Team Speak and we can arrange a time to suit both of us. Sometimes, just speaking to another pilot can save you hours of time, trawling through the Forum to find the answers you need. In 2015, our good friend, ATAG_Lewis took me under his wing and passed on masses of advice (plus a few very bad jokes) which still serve to keep me alive in the air today. Please don't hesitate to ask.

Having said that...Christmas is nearly upon us and once my sons and Grandkiddliwinks descend on us this Wednesday I won't be able to fly until early January....but we could sort out a time then? Just let me know....and meanwhile...... have a great Christmas! Salute!

    Hello Emulatrix,
Its a cracking community here so dont worry, you are in good hands, Enjoy the learning curve because it's a fun and rewarding experience.
This excellent simulator shines on multiplayer so hopefully see in the skies there sometime.

    Re: Evening All

Thanks @ATAG_Marlow I shall definitely take you up on that offer in the new year. I am going to take advantage of the Christmas break to get some hours of flight practice in drilling the basics of Take Off, Landing and Navigation. But my goal is to be able to get on the multiplayer servers as soon as I can and interact with the community as no doubt the best way to flatten that learning curve is watch, learn and talk to guys like yourself. I have experience using teamspeak for a clan I am a member of that play a milsim called Squad so already have that installed.

Thank you for already giving me an offer of help and the incentive to get up to speed as soon as I can. Have a great and hopefully safe Christmas and I look forward to talking to you in a few weeks.

    Re: Evening All

Many thanks, Emulatrix...that's deifinitely something to look forward to.

You can contact me on this thread or send me a private post via the notification system in Forum. Either way we will have some fun, in a low key, unpressurised way....and when your ready, I can introduce you to some of the...er....ahem....'characters'...who frequent the Servers! (You have been warned!) Ha ha!

In the meantime, 'crack on' and have a 'blindin' Christmas! Salute!
