Cool Re: IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs Of Dover and Desert Wings - Tobruk: Update 5.029

After downloading the latest update 5.029 I thought I would give the the Ju88 a fly (always liked this aircraft in the sim). I discovered I couldn't synchronize both engines with the throttle working simultaneously. I tried many times, still couldn't get it to work? Not sure if this is a 'bug' or am I doing something wrong? I use the command 'ALT A' to synch the engines.
Could somebody kindly have a look at this problem for me.
    Thanks,
    DFLion

First of all thank you very much for your continuous work, TFS!

Especially the sound updates are very much appreciated and the Spitfire sound now is just amazing!

However we encountered two issues yesterday that might be worth looking at:
    1. the landing gear alarm did not disappear in certain circumstances, but was to be heard whenever the gear was up, even at above 200 mph.
    2. When taking off together from an airfield, the other aircraft seem louder or as loud as your own engine. I could hear another Spit on the ground, when I was circling the airfield at 1500 ft.

    Hi Derda,

    Thanks for your feedback.

    1) I'm working on resolving this issue. The horn works as normal for me but a few others have it working in reverse of what it should be.
    2) Is this with the new merlin 45 or others?

I forgot to mention in the sound notes that if you use the Lorenz system, the sound will continue after landing unless you tune the radio to another inactive frequency.

That makes sense. The Lorenz system reacts only to your aircraft's position, even on the ground; not to your airborne or landed status per se. As you have already mentioned, the Lorenz system is on by default.

The latest update states that landing horn is only in the Spit, but I'm getting it in the Beau on low level bombing runs. I take off stay under 500ft within about 5 mins or so the horn comes on and stays on low level or high. What triggers it...altitude, speed or both? No idea why it comes on in the Beau.

***Added: Sound - lorenz beam + marker beacons. [ATAG_Slipstream]

    Yep, it works!

Thanks to Oskar and Slipstream for getting the Lorenz system running.

    Some tips!

    1) I increased the gamma setting of my monitor. Easy to do with Windows 10 (will include directions in a subsequent post). Some of you lucky chaps may even have a gaming keyboard that will do just that. The Welly’s cockpit is just too dark, otherwise. Easy to reset gamma back to normal level when done.

    2) The long range radio beacon is the Primary Frequency. This is the one to follow to get you pointed in the right direction of the airfield. Keep in mind that the long range radio beacon is located *in the vicinity* of the airfield; the shorter-range Lorenz beacon is physically situated *directly in line” with the airstrip. As you near the airfield and pick up the Lorenz beacon (both on the Lorenz gauge and the “morse” audible tone, switch your attention to steering your aircraft to keep the Lorenz gauge centered. The Lorenz beam is extremely narrow, so it will guide you precisely to the correct touchdown point.

    3) The YouTube mission was designed by Oskar at Oye Plage airfield, originally for Axis aircraft. I made some minor tweaks for the Welly, including extending the air spawn point well out from Wissant to give more time to fiddle with frequencies, control settings, etc.

    4) The airspawn is approx at 6 angels, the idea is to gradually lose height at reduced engine settings while following the Primary Frequency signal with the Radio Beacon gauge (Fixed Loop Radio Compass). Leave the FLRC angle at its default 0 degrees ie. pointing straight ahead in the direction of aircraft travel.

    5) Ideally, try to be 1000 - 2000 feet altitude when you first pick up the Lorenz signal on the Lorenz gauge and moving at approx 140 mph IAS. When you hear the audible Lorenz tone, drop undercarriage and flaps, and adjust throttles to give a gentle descent of 500 ft/min. As the tone goes from beeping to a steady tone, keep your eyes peeled for the landing strip to appear before you and reduce speed to effect a normal landing. Good luck!

Re: IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs Of Dover and Desert Wings - Tobruk: Update 5.029

Increasing the gamma setting on your monitor (Windows 10):

    1. On your Windows 10 desktop in the lower left corner, use the Search bar to bring up Calibrate Display Color:

    2. This will bring up a screen that looks like this. Click on "Next" in the lower right corner several times:

    3. You will then arrive at the Gamma Adjust screen that looks like this. Use your mouse to pull the button upwards to maximum gamma:

This will make everything look overexposed/washed out for normal playing, but for night time play, this is the bee's knees. ALT-TAB to get back into the game and into a much-brightened cockpit. The outside terrain will also be better illuminated, much as in a bright moonlit night.

    4. When you have now safely landed, simply ALT-TAB back to the Calibrate Color Display, click on Reset to bring your monitor gamma back to normal. Ideally, the Primary Cockpit Illumination should be ramped up a bit (well, a LOT) so make this work around unnecessary. For the time being, though, this will make night flying in the Wellingtons actually doable.

    Hi Birdtail.

This is occurring because some of the other aircraft use Spitfire cockpit sounds. It was an oversight on my part and will be resolved for the next update.

    Cheers

With certain joystick/hotas/controller setups the Spitfire's Landing Gear Warning Horn was always on when gear is up. Also the sound appeared in aircrafts where it was not supposed to.

The hotfix which was just distributed via STEAM disables the Gear Warning Horn completely until the cause is found.
