These guys took a bigger risk in flying against Nazi Germany than Caucasian pilots... because the Nazi ideology regarded them as 'untermensch' and therefore not deserving of humane treatment.
All Allied pilots were at risk of being lynched or shot out of hand in the last year of the war if they came down over Germany and came under the authority of local Nazis instead of the Luftwaffe, these guys were even more at risk.

Bless all those African American warriors. They fought for a country that discriminated them so bad, but damn they fought well.
