Sweet CloD moment: Learn to fly and to find...

    Hi folks!
Last week I had a sweet CloD moment in real life.

An important part of our glider training is the navigational training or "NAV-Einweisung" in German. This training prepares you for your first
overland flight in a glider. Only with map, compass and clock you have to find 6 tiny airfields plus a few outlanding opportunities in a 200 km radius around your home base.
As I sat in this little Rotax Falke with the map on my knees, one eye at the compass and the other one outside scaning for landmarks I thought: Oh boy you've spent endless hours doing the same in Cliffs. :-D

I had my NAV training in a Rotax Falke TMG on Wednesday 20th July. It have been the hottest day this summer so far: 39,5 degree Celsius

Another Cliffs-of-Dover-Moment: Just watch my face in the first 20 seconds

The main difference is that in CloD you can always hit the reset/restart button if you get lost…

What I really missed was a mouse wheel for zooming into the ICAO map

I use my iPad for reading ICAO maps when flying in real life. You can zoom as much as you like

Look here for German airspace: https://www.openflightmaps.org/ed-germany/
Or here for worldwide charts: https://skyvector.com/
The second one is very powerful, you can prepare full flight plans, and I believe even export them to certain flight sims like MSFS…

    Hey Noofy,

Didn't know open flightmaps. Outstandig! Thx a lot!
Usually I fly with XCSOAR an open source tool for smartphones and tablets. A very powerfull navigational software for gliders.
