    deathmatch server

why we can't have a deathmatch server running 24/7 ?

We need to grow our player base, sometimes you just want to fly a quick sortie, shot, land, go again
1-good to improve our skills in dogfight
    2-fun
    3-fast passed
    4-more options besides big campaigns
5-low on time? don't want to fly from england to france for 40min and get killed on the first turn. deathmatch it is.

    Re: deathmatch server

The VCAF Tobruk server (using the old DangerDogz missions) runs 24/7 and every 7 minutes an AI sortie is lunched... random missions, may be red, may be blue. There are usually lots of AI to shoot down, and if someone sees you on there they may jump in and oppose you. TAB-7-1 will usually give you direction and distance to the enemy, and you can jump outside the cockpit to see where the enemy is if you can't find them.

Running a server costs time and money.
And sadly there are already too many servers for too few players.

You know you could host it yourself... I host the VCAF Tobruk server in a virtual machine on my home computer...I've seen as many as 45 people on at once and haven't heard any complaints.

Id take issue with the first point - winning dogfights means you're either not paying attention to your situational awareness and have gotten into a pickle or your opponent has done the same. Simply being in a protracted fight with alternating advantages or prolonged manouvering puts you at risk. In short - dogfights are the stuff of WW1 and you'd be unlikey to survive for long using those honed turn and burn skills with 4 opponents hovering over you like vultures in a more "general" or mission orinetated scenario. Not saying skills wouldnt improve but there is more to winning a contest than stick finesse. Teamwork, coms, SA, energy states all play their part and deathmatch servers rarely give you much chance to major on any of those.

Seen lots of great "dogfighters" not last 30 secs after being spotted by Karaya or 9/JG52.

But - good for you on the suggestion - perhaps take the initialive to start one yourself to guage its popularity.

    Re: deathmatch server

Once upon a time … we used to have regular (monthly) Tiger Moth gatherings, whereby two pilots would take off in parallel, turn away from each other, then engage in a dogfight. The loser is eliminated, and the winner gets to fight the winner of the next pair. Etc, until all pilots are eliminated but the big winner of the challenge.
Winning 3 challenges got you to have your name engraved on the Tiger Moth Cup.
The advantage of using the Tiger Moth is that first of all only pilot skills get in play - no room for plane advantage. Plus if you manage to fly tight maneuvers with the Moth without crashing it you basically improve your dogfighting skills on any plane.

    Re: deathmatch server

i don't see why people get mad about a simple server.

in il2 1946 those kind of server were so simple but fun, good to fill up other servers

that this one by example, *(do not worry about open cockpit, i would say isn't a option to use open cockpit options)

    Yes I see.
This is not an official site.
It is not always online, but often.
I played on it a few times and it is lots of fun. Don’t know who the owner is.
Unfortunately my Internet connection really sucks so I cannot host it or similar.
Maybe you can from São Paolo?

The server is very good, if you're alone you can generate enemies A.I waves until someone else enters the arena.

I would like to give a shot, what exactly i need? There is a howto somewhere or i need to figure out?

    You can try here.

Look for the Mission Builder's Manual and the Server Administrator's manual.

There are other tools that can be of help on this repository.

And you can always ask your questions on the forum. I don't know much about building missions or running a server, but many people can certainly help.
