    Special tribute sortie?

I suggest to organize a special sortie, perhaps tomorrow before or after the scheduled event, whereby all bomber pilots, from both sides, try to make it to Buckingham Palace and drop their bombs UNARMED, pretending they are flowers.

If I knew how to write missions, I’d do it a dawn or dusk sortie (just enough light so fighters can join too and follow the bombers).

I’d put search lights around Buckingham Palace to make it visible from a distance.

Bombers could all takeoff from France, make it to London, then all land at nearby airports. For example, and to have similar flight distances for both teams:

Both airports would be equipped with Radio Nav and Lorentz, and of course landing lights.

Fighters would fly in formation with the bombers.

Long range radionav aids to help reaching target would be handy at departure airports, at Buckingham Palace, and at Wilmington for lateral beaming / position fix.

That would be a fantastic night nav exercise and a nice tribute.

But ... I don't know how to write such mission

However I am willing to assist anyone who can take the task and assign parts of it to me (with clear instructions)...

    Just a thought

    Philip came to me today,
and said it was time to go.
I looked at him and smiled,
    as I whispered “I know"

I then turned and looked behind me,
    and saw I was asleep.
All my family were around me,
and I could hear them weep.

    I gently touched each shoulder,
    with Phillip by my side.
Then I turned away and walked,
    with my angel guide.

    Phillip held my hand,
    as he lead the way,
to a world where King's and Queens,
    are Monarch's every day.

I was given a crown to wear
or a halo known by some.
    The difference is up here,
    they are worn by everyone.

I felt a sense of peace,
my reign had seen its end.
Seventy years I had served my country
    as the peoples friend.

    Thank you for the years,
for all your time and love.
Now I am one of two again,
    in our Palace up above.

    (not my writing of course...)

    What a fantastic idea, Noofy!

Tomorrow is a bit soon, but perhaps we could put something together within a week or so and call it Operation London Bridge. We should make it a Blitz map (no Wellies ) so all can join.

Leave it with me for now.

Not a good idea until the official period of mourning has passed.

It is The King's wish that a period of Royal Mourning be observed from now until seven days after The Queen’s Funeral.

I'm already populating a map with the radionav beacons, Lorentz, and landing lights, enroute and at arrival airfields.
I'll send the mission file when done. You can use it if it helps.
What will remain to be done is prepare the spawn areas at departing airports, and set the whole mission up to run on a server, things that I have no clue how to do...
Adding a counter on the number of bombs reaching target within a certain perimeter can add to the sense of competition, especially if we can differentiate bombs delivered by red/blue teams...

    Re: Special tribute sortie?

Baffin's concerns are noted. I believe a flyby of all available Blitz aircraft would be a wonderful tribute to Her Majesty following the flight plans described by Noofy. No provision for flowers in the bomb bays, better that the available bombloads be zero.

Maybe a training flight can be planned 2 or 3 days before to avoid mess for the official sortie?

    Re: Special tribute sortie?

Even though the Queen's final arrangements are now dubbed "Operation Unicorn", due to her passing in Scotland, the use of the original title "Operation London Bridge", may cause confusion. For a more complete explanation click:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_London_Bridge

There are many other English naming options: "Buckingham", "St. James", "Westminster", etc.

    My last thought...

    Re: Special tribute sortie?

    Hello everyone

I'm just me... so I pretty much just speak for all of us.

First off... Nobody should get uppety or overly protocolly.. or whatever that stuff is.

A flyby sounds quite lovely to me.

Personally I thought the flower bombs was a great idea Noofster... we used to do a 297,000 gun sallute at the end of the Highseas Tours.

I'm up for a thingy overf Buck Pal.

Let's not get too "doff your cap" / "protocol forbids" though.

    Basically...

Everyone relax and have some fun.

Sure as hell what I would want.

I have pretty strong feelings on this stuff.

I won't share them here though.

    other than to say:

    Do the fun stuff.

    And stuff the rest.

    hugs and stuff.

    Re: Special tribute sortie?

This is a nice idea Noofy, thanks for suggesting a flypast in honour of her majesty.

I agree that it would probably be best to keep bomb bays empty though.

I have been absent on the servers for a while, but I am hoping to be able to join in with this, subject to my availability at the chosen date and time.
