How many of you "Old" guys flew Warbirds III?

I have fond memorys of that old Pixel sim. Used to be one helluva sim crowd in the Warbirds days.

I saw an ATAG_DEACON and just got to wondering........ could it be THEE Deacon from WBIII? Hmmmmm.
I flew in the 333rd red Dawgs Eventually turning to the Dark Side JG80 . I miss those days when WWII Flight sims were all the rage.

It very likely could be Deacon. He’s been off on walk about for some time, but I recall he and Eshark used to fly together.

My early days of online flying were with Kesmai’s Air Warrior ll, flying in the 509th Composite Squadron led by Mallard. Long time ago when 56.6 modems were a big upgrade from the good ol’ 14.4’s!

I had friends that I played online with back then that played WBIII. But for me it never came into question because of the subscription costs. That was too much for young me I recall.

But they loved the game and the way the battles happened, with a lot of teamwork.

Or is m memory failing? I swear, I am not that old.

I was flying Warbirds in 1997 when it was two dollars and hour if you can believe that.

I seem to remember packages of some 22 USD a month in around 1998 or 1999… crazy. And people think they have it bad these days with three (or four) different sims that blow WBIII out of the water and only have one off costs

I fly in Warbirds 1.xx at $ 1.99 per hour, one mount I spent more than $100.00.

Re: How many of you "Old" guys flew Warbirds III?

I flew with Dobs who was a weaps officer on a F15 E strike eagle. Awesome dude. I hated the P38, and my German DNA won me over. I then turned to the Daaaark Siiiiiiide JG80 Hells Aces. FlinVR any WBIII fellas remember him on comms?? Hehehehe

Good pilot though. Target for Tonight was always great. Those events were Epic MOST of the time. I think think Winging with Skud in IL2 46 flying A8's and JABO runs were my fondest memories of any flight sim thus far. We had a riot in those A8's and setup a lot of kill hungry pilots back then

WBIII was killer in its time, a vanguard of online WWII combat.... Aces High Pfffft!!! That was the Vibe back then. Not long after my WBIII experience IL2 came along, and WOW hook set for many years!! I will NEVER forget, and still have my I-16 Angry Gerbil skin!

I can still remember my first win. It was a P-38 and I was in an F-4

The guys I remember most are Oberst Lem PJK Riders Arde moosefly and a guy from Switzerland who I can't remember his name right now. Went from Warbirds to WWII Fighters then IL-2 2001 August demo.

    Lemmy I almost Forgot
I have a good memory still, I think, and if that still holds true. His name was Thorsten Peters from Hamburg Germany, and last I remember talking to him It was about a motorcycle he restored. VERY cool fellow. I hope he is well these days.
Oh BTW a German friend of mine named Crazy Butcher did the sherman tank model and some others, and NEVER got paid like he was supposed to. I suppose the writing was on the wall when WBIII was bought out.

Yes, Its the same Deacon. Still flying the P-51 and whacking my Ju 88 from time-to-time.

I loved Warbirds 1. Was over $150 one month. It was like crack.

Used to get speeding tickets trying to make it home in time to fly the scenario lites. Once they had a special scenario where the mighty 8th was sending bombers to Hamburg. I was in a formation of 12 190's attacking a cloud formation of 60 human-manned B-17s with escorts. Heaven...
