How to use / select custom defined machine gun belts in game?

    Hi all,
I can now define custom belts for planes.
But the only way for me to use them in game is to select them in the Full Mission Editor or to add them by text editing to a mission file.

    My Questions:
-How to select them for a mission without using Full Mission Editor or text editing?
-is there a way to use custom Belts for each mission by default?
-in which settings / configuration file are the belt definitions defined? I ask because even after succesful saving of belt definitions no changed files are shown in windows explorer search when searching the 2 CLOD folders (...Softclub..., Steam...Common...) for changed today.

To select a different Belt Preset:

    - go to Options/Plane

    - select aircraft

    - go to Loadout, select Guns tab

    - select your Belt Preset from the Weapons preset dropdown menu

    - click OK to get back to the Plane Options page then OK to get back to the Options page

    - the newly selected Belt Preset will now be used in SP missions unless overriden by the mission

To use a custom Belt Preset by default in a mission select it in the Group Properties tab.

Custom Belt Presets are saved in the user.ini file.

Except basically all missions have it set to Default. So except when you do your own missions or edit them in the FMB this doesn’t work.

It’s a theoretical solution that is not applicable to normal usage.
Only real option would be to create a second loadout dropdown for belting in the gui or merging both loadouts into one (ie. not have two different pages for boms and fuel and for guns with two different names and ini entries).

Or make the game use Custom by default, and not Default like now. And of course edit all stock missions and update.

Please read my post. You can set you Belt Preset to whatever you want and that is what you'll fly with. Unless the mission builder has set some specific Belt Preset.

Re: How to use / select custom defined machine gun belts in game?

I read it. And I will test it later again. Unless it’s been changed recently it should still act the same as it always has.

Quick missions, single missions and campaign missions in the game still have Default as the preset. So yes, saying a mission builder can allow for custom belting but no mission available in the game has been built to allow for that doesn’t solve the problem, since every mission in the game doesn’t allow for that.

    Which is what I wrote.

Or I will stand corrected. Which I will do gladly if this long standing problem has been corrected.

That setting is for the Loadout, not the Belt Preset. If you look at the Bf-110 you will see 'Empty', 'Default' and then all the possible bomb loads. Those are Loadouts.

The Belt Preset is selected as described above. To change it for any particular aircraft you need to go through the Options page.

Hi Oskar, I made a post in the beta section about this with two videos showing what you posted and what I was talking about. Would be great if you had a look at both of them and shared your comments.

The goal under PLANE in options is to set your bullet load out there and save with your horiz and elev give it a unique name. Once done load the mission up in Full mission builder and the go find the player plane and select that load out for that group, as J-Hat was saying unless the GUI changed then this is the only way to do it in single player missions coops and campaigns.

Thanks Oskar let us know if it is different.

Will this work for drop tanks & 'Boots" ( gum pods on Bf-109's?)

That works. You can always select the loadouts (first page of the plane options) prior to a mission.

Edit: not always. Not for campaign missions afaik

In all the years I've played this, I've never quite figured out how this arming/options works ( Ok ,I'm not all that bright..) but today for the first time I got it working and my Frderick had "Boots!" Thanks for the post and the solution!

Just one more question: Can any of these settings actually apply in Campaign missions when there are no "Custom " settings?
BTW: I not only got the "boots " option ( and boy are they devastating!) on the Bf-109F-4 but finally have a belly tank showing up on the F-2. To my eye these options really make the 109 look right. The belly tank is still not even available in Great Battles sadly.
