    Blitzkrieg!!!!!!

    THE FLYING TIN CANS PRESENT:

    'BLITZKREIG'

    Date: SUNDAY JUNE 11

    Time: 1900 GMT

Server: ATAG AXIS v ALLIES Public Server

    Map: 'Hellfire Corner'

    (Canterbury Airfield, 11am, Sunday June 11th, 1940)

'As you were, Gentlemen!' (You too, Snargle!)

As you are only too aware the Luftwaffe have been pounding the ports of Southampton and Portsmouth recently, with numerous attacks by Ju 88's and 110 fighter bombers. Fortunately, thanks to brave chaps like you, we've been able to send them home with a bloody nose. Arf, arf!

However, our Agents in northern France tell us that the Luftwaffe are moving their focus back to Dover and 'Hellfire Corner.' We suspect they may be about to launch deadly Jabo attacks on vital targets in the area.
It's up to you to send 'em packing! Are you up to it?'

ATAG and TFS are delighted to support The Flying Tin Cans in this, their second Multiplayer Event, which is shaping up to be a real 'ding dong' off the Kentish Coast. Red and Blue pilots, no matter how 'green,' are invited to come and join the fun, thrills and spills! Everybody will receive a warm welcome....either in 303's, cannon shells or......... loud banter!
Please note that Blitz-only and Blitz/Tobruk players will both have access to this event.
    See you next Sunday!

Here are the Red and Blue briefings:

    <Description>
    August 1940 – Hellfire Corner v1.3.1

Weather: Clear skies, winds from the W @ 4 knots.

“What General Weygand called the battle of France is over. I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin.” – Winston Churchill

    Fighter Command Orders

    - Provide fighter cover over a merchant convoy moving through the Channel. This convoy is westbound departing from Dover (AX23) and heading to Dungeness (AV20).

    - Intercept enemy air raids on our coastal airbases and installations. Use Chain Home RDF (Tab-4-1) to locate enemy groups. Likely targets of enemy bombers include RAF Manston (AX26.3), RAF Hawkinge (AW23.5), RAF Lympne (AV23.2), & RAF Eastchurch (AU26.5).

    Bomber Command Orders

    - The Germans have been gathering their forces in preparation for an invasion. The Calais railyard (BB21.8) is loaded with equipment. Destroy the railyard to disrupt their plans.

    - The airstrip at Caffiers (BB20.4) is home to an elite Messerschmitt unit that was recently outfitted with a new variant of the 109 which boasts increased performance at higher altitudes. This new fighter is designated the Bf 109 E-4/N. Crater the runways and render their base inoperable to put the E-4/N's out of action.

    - The airfield at Calais-Marck (BC21.7) is being used by an experimental group of elite pilots pioneering the use of fighter-bombers. Radio intecepts identify the unit as Erprobungsgruppe 210, flying Messerschmitt 109's & 110's. Their attacks come at high speed and low level and they are gone before we can even scramble. Knocking their base out for even a few hours would be a relief for our airfields and convoys.

    - The Germans have setup a ship detection radar at Cap Gris Nez (AZ20.8) which they are using to locate or convoys sailing through the Channel. Destroy the radar and any surrounding vehicles and structures.

Chain Home RDF Instructions: Press Tab then 4. Mission then 1. Chain Home RDF. First, you must connect to a dispatch controller. Press 1. Select Dispatch Controller to see a list of controllers within range. For this mission connect to Luton (Ash). Once conntected to a controller select option 2. Get Radar Contacts for a report which will display in the chat console. Avoid using the 0. Back option, use Tab to exit instead. If you cannot connect to a controller you could be out of range.

AIRSPAWNS "RAF airborne" for Beaufighter and Blenheim IV late are available.

    August 1940 – Hellfire Corner v1.3.1

Weather: Clear skies, winds from the W @ 2 m/s.

Victory in France is ours. Now we must turn our attention to Britain.

    Bf 109 / Bf 110 Orders

    - Establish air superiority over South-East England.

    - Escort our bombers as they attack enemy shipping and airbases.

    - Enlist with Erprobungsgruppe 210 out of Calais-Marck and fly fighter-bombers against the targets listed below. Note there is a shortage among 50kg bombs and priority has been given to the Kampfgruppen.

    Ju 87 / Ju88 / He 111 / Erpr.Gr.210 Orders

    - Destroy English shipping in the Channel. Our Freya unit at Cap Gris Nez has detected enemy shipping sailing from Dover (AX23) towards Dungeness (AV20). Put these ships on the bottom of the Channel.

    - The British have setup large radio masts along their coastline that we believe is a primitive form of aircraft detection. Destroy the installations at Dover (AX23.9) & Dunkirk (AU25.3). Focus your attack on the buildings at the base of the towers.

    - Destroy the RAF airbases at Manston (AX26.3), Hawkinge (AW23.5), Lympne (AV23.2), & Eastchurch (AU26.5). Drop your bombs on runways, hangars, & workshops to knock the base out of action.

Note: 40 points required to win mission. Ships & Chain Home sites are worth 1 pt each. Airfields are worth 10.

AIRSPAWNS "CAI airborne" for BR20's are available.

    Re: Blitzkrieg!!!!!!

Great fun - thanks for organising this and I look forward to the next one.

As an aside, it would be amazing if we could see any stats for our sorties. For instance, I'd love to know if the bombs I dropped on Caffiers actually hit the target or did any damage . I saw some exception messages for stat calls in the in-game log, so maybe they are logged somewhere.

It was an excellent evening and great to see so many players online.

Yesterday was a great day. We flew Spitfire with OBT Polak and OBT Lionel. The Blue gamers was agressive and coordinate, playing with strategy and comprehension. We where red and we appreciate the evening.

Yes, Brunov......a great time was had by all yesterday and Rostic....... has the 'snaps' to prove it! Some stunning photos, Rostic! Talk about 'action.....at full bore!' Crackin!'

I myself never saw the inside of a Spitfire but got sucked into that old trap: 'Damn it! I'm going to have a successful Blenny run, if it kills me!' And it did! At least 4 times! Amazingly, at one point about 4 to 5 Blenheims were approaching Calais Marck from the sea. It was our second run of the night after hitting the Rail yard. We were at least 3 or 4 minutes out and had the target in sight, when we noticed a single109 diving on us from 12 o clock high. He was coming for me who, rather rashly, was out front with Dazza immediately behind. And as I watched 'the blighter' bearing down on me, I thought:

'Right, you...... 'nicely brought up' Blue Pilot! Come and get it!' And I carefully leveled my awesome weapon (the pathetic single forward firing 303 machine gun! LoL!) at him! All hell broke loose as a rather unequal head to head then occurred. As, predictably, my screen went totally black, I was comforted........and a touch compensated.... by the fact that I KNEW...... my gun was 'on!' I must have scratched his paintwork somewhere!!!!!

The rest of my crew managed to bail and as their brollys opened we heard Dazza shout in fury because he HAD BEEN KILLED......yes, in the same pass.....BY THE SAME 109! Two Blennies in ONE pass! The devil's work! Surely?

I can't remember who the 109 pilot was or whether he even realised he had downed 2 aircraft in one pass. However, later on he met his just deserts....quite right, too.....and I was gratified to see I was credited with 0.02 of a kill! (Which only reminds us to......never underestimate that forward firing 303!!!!!)

As it was, as the evening wore on, we Blenny pilots managed to take out:

    The Calais Railyard
    Calais Marck Lufftwaffe field
    Cap Griz Nez radar

We had 69% of Caffier, too, by the end of the evening but were beaten by the clock! Not too shabby!

It was a great night and both sides were very well represented.

Thanks to all who supported the event and special thanks to Flying Tin Cans for suggesting it. Here's to many more! Salute!

Thanks all for a great event.

I really had some fun winging up with Hartmann (as usual), and hope the next event is not too distant (hint hint to a "part II").

I do think regular events would help while we patiently await the release of VR and the visual update, hoping for more people to join the CLOD community.

I think it may have been me because my score went up by two points after a pass similar to the one you described…
Then I went back to the good old and mighty G.50…

    Re: Blitzkrieg!!!!!!

    Hi,
Marlow transcribed very well what we experienced that evening. I think it is also due to a good balance between the two camps, blue and red, number of players, respect for flight techniques and opponents.
it's a pleasure to play like this.

Noofy, I think we met you in front of Calais because we were regularly hooked by couples of G50s in beautiful dogfights
Once again, great evening and thank you all.
