    New Guy Here

Been playing flight sims what seem like forever. Had Rowans BoB back in the day had earliest versions of IL2 from when it first came out. More recently fly a lot of DCS and VR. Great Battles in VR is pretty good and flying WW1 planes in VR has been superb. Looking forward to Cliffs of Dover VR when it arrives. Just getting back into flying in head tracker mode using Tobii eye tracker with Face Track Noir. Saw some youtube contents about other campaigns so gravitated here to see if I could pick these up.

If anybody has any killer tips as to how I can beat the 110's in Their finest hour, I am all ears. Not sure why I can't outfly them but everytime I think I have cleared 6 and have a bead on one of them there is another one ripping cannon shells past my ears.

    Re: New Guy Here

Hi Andy....welcome to Cliffs of Dover! Great to have you here!

With all that experience of flight sims I think you wIll love it here. Most people believe Cliffs to be a steep learning curve but I think you'll find it easier than most. Even so, do take a look at the pilots 'Manuals' which are in the main menu of the sim. There is a comprehensive manual for each aircraft.

I myself have a long history with flight sims. Brought up on RAF stations, I was always mad on aviation and came to Cliffs from, Flying Corp, Jane's Fighters, European Air Wars, IL2, and finally Cliffs of Dover. I spotted various vids on YouTube, notable ACG's 'The Beginning of the End'....and thought, 'this is amazing! I've got to try this.
So I built a computer just for Cliffs back in 2015 and......I'm still here! Having a great time!

We try to hold regular Events, Andy, and the next is on Saturday July 15th. The Community seems to love these occasions and we have upwards of 60/80 pilots, all battling it out at the same time! Huge aviation challenges and....much hilarity always follows! I hope you can join us!

More details and a Briefing for the Event will be posted on the Forum next week. In the meantime, enjoy the sim.
Beta testing of VR in Cliffs is ongoing at the moment and you may be able to
help with that. If this interests you, do send a PM to Buzzsaw and he and the TFS Team will take it from there.

Glad you found us, Andy! Hope to see you in our CLod skies! Salute!

ACG's YouTube 'The Beginning of the End' was what sold me on this flight SIM. I didn't spend much time is single player, I joined the online TWC server, and have been there ever since. I can still recall the thrill and excitement the first time I entered the online sim world .... I could hear the growl of the fighters roaring over head .... I felt for sure everyone was out to get me the "newbie" .... but after a bit, with no one shooting me up, I began to relax, and began to "cut my teeth" in the online arena.

That was 2017, and yet today, the thrill and excitement still exists. I laugh at myself sometimes, as I become aware of my shallow breathing, as I try to align my quarry with my gunsight

Andy, I think you'll love and appreciate what you find here in Cliffs of Dover, and the community that comes with.

    Re: New Guy Here

Ha ha! Brilliant post, Padre! I think you've 'hit the nail on the head' and I recognise much of your experience as my own.

I was very nervous going online for the first time. When I first found myself in a Spitfire cockpit I was immediately accosted with: 'Please refer to the mission briefing......'

......and I thought, 'crumbs! They know I'm here and that I haven't a clue what I'm doing!' So I pressed 'Escape' and got out of the server pronto......before I did anything else wrong!

But I couldn't resist having another go, when I was sure nobody was looking. This time I found myself in a Spitfire .....terrified.....over Dover at around five thousand feet. Some early seed of fighter pilot instinct made me check six and there was a yellow spinner keeping pace directly behind! I was stunned....heart hammering..but before I could react I was cut to pieces by cannon fire! Gordon Bennet! It was heart stoppingly exciting!

And I'm still here! Still trying to unwrap the onion that is Cliffs of Dover and still getting ....very slowly but surely.....better! Well, maybe.....but even if I'm not.....I'm enjoying the challenge and the ride!
