    Sptifire MkI and MkIa

    Hi,

My understnading is the MkI has two stage prop pitch, so this is possibly actually a de havilland prop (like the Hurricane code name is actually labled as having)...

...then the MkIa has variable prop pitch,... is this because it has the ROTOL prop, or just a propeller governor and internal control change and could maybe still have a DH prop?

    The Mk I in-sim has a DH 5/21 two-speed prop.

The Mk Ia currently has a Rotol constant speed prop. Historically most Mk Is had De Havilland 5/21 2-pitch props converted to constant-speed props or constant-speed DH props from the outset. Some (around 32?) had Rotol RX5/4 constant speed props, like in-sim.

    Re: Sptifire MkI and MkIa

    Hello

There was no significant difference in performance between the Rotol Constant Speed prop Mk IA Spitfire and the De Havilland converted Constant Speed prop Mk IA Spitfire.

For us to create another new Spitfire Mk IA model with the same performance as an existing one to add to the multiple varieties of Spitfire Mk IA's already in the game makes zero sense.

Yes, probably this version should have been created to start, but the original developers decided instead to use the Rotol prop on the Mk IIA to save modeling time. The original developers were not aware of the upgrade to constant speed, and only later were pressured to add it. (along with +12 boost)

There is a reason we have the two pitch prop version Mk I... this prop was the standard until approx. May of 1940... so the period during the evacuation of Dieppe. This is a period covered in the game and therefore important.

Only later the spring/summer were these props converted with a kit to Constant Speed versions in time for the main Battle of Britain.
