    Blenheims

    Hi,

In my quest to understand the aircraft, I am now stuck on the difference between the Blenheim IVF and Blenheim IVNF.

The sources I find online suggest the F was a Nightfighter itself, so I'm just wondering if anyone can shed any ligh ton what may be different between the F versions and the NF ones in game please?

Please note these enquiries of mine are NOT criticisms in any way of what is in game, simply that I am trying to figure out how to use the various variants correctly that are there.

So far as I understand it:
Blenehim I and IV were both in service at the start of the war (only IV is playable)
Visually you can see the different nose (but IV shoudl have a rear facing chin setup that is missing in game)
They would also have improved engines and improved armour on the IV
Late versions of each appear to be just the twin turret.
F means you can't take bombs as it is a (night)fighter variant (I assume the bomb aiming etc. is absent too)

So is the NF in game, just a skin difference to the F or is there something else?

I think Buzzsaw covered some of it in this post in response to the difference between the Beaufighters day & night fighters:

Does that mean there is external antenna on the blenheim NF?

edit: Interstingly whilst most sources I coudl find said the IF was intended as nightfighter, this:

"In May and June 1940 daylight Blenheim losses was to cause concern for Fighter Command. It was then decided that the IF would be relegated mainly to night fighter duties where 23 Squadron who had already operated the IF under night time conditions had better success. "
confirms it was used a s adayfighter briefly.

So that is all good, however I am still wondering what 'in game' is the difference between the F and NF.... other than skin....

My understanding from the thread I linked to is the night environment stuff including radar is planned, just some way down the line.
