ADLERTAG MISSION 5 'THE CLASH OF THE TITANS' will REFLY this Wednesday.

ADLERTAG MISSION 5 - 'THE CLASH OF TITANS'

    This Wednesday, February 7th

    Server: Axis v Allies

    Time: 20.00 GMT

Stand by yer beds.......it ain't over yet!

The jury...chaired by our own...our very own....OBT Polak, is still 'out' as to which side came out on top after 'Clash of the Titans was flown yesterday.

The Reds are fairly confident that they won the day...but the Blues think they did better! (Yeh! Right! )

So the issue will be finally decided...once and for all..... this Wednesday, February 7th at 20.00 GMT

Thanks to Polak for providing twice the flights..........for twice the fun!

    See you on Wednesday! Salute!

Thanks, Marlow - you beat me to it!

Saturday's event was a ton of fun, even if I let myself get bounced twice by high-flying 109's early in the game. The OBT boys flew an incredibly close formation of Hurricanes - we would be forgiven for mistaking them for a 9./JG52 rotte at a distance if they'd been flying at 33 angels or so! LOL

I'm itching to get retribution against those devilish, elusive 109's on Wednesday.

    See everyone then. All welcome!!!!

This is proof of a Red victory. Polak is too polite to award it to his side!

Seriously now, is it possible to record these events with Tacview and share the file afterwards? The large formation dogfights would be fantastic.

    Hi,

There is a bug in TacViewRecorder 1.0
This version can not be use on multiplayer server (incorrect extract of mission name).
I have fixed it in version 1.1

The recorder now works on a server in addition to a lobby or SP mission. I also improved the mapping of AC displayed in TacView.

I tested it in server, lobby and SP mode (new or already existing missions) and everything seems to work as expected but it's better test it before running on massive players mission.

You can download the latest version here:
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...W6qEbPKOVt_Bwl
and install it as usual (after uninstallation of the previous one).

Be aware that this version, like the previous one, does not deal with projectiles ballistics (bullets, shells, bombs, torpedoes) and are not displayed in TacView.

Re: ADLERTAG MISSION 5 'THE CLASH OF THE TITANS' will REFLY this Wednesday.

Unfortunately I was unavailable for Saturday's event, but am fully ready for Wednesday's rematch.

I have to confess, I was nearly suborned over to the Dark Side. There I was, you see, casually minding my own business, contemplating the infinite, as you do, when this siren song of an insidiously seductive line of reasoning weaselled it's way into my train of thought: you know how you've developed this habit of either crashing on take off, or getting shot down early so that you miss the initial interception? And then you spend quite a lot of time using Tab-7-1 trying to chase down rarely visible phantom-like contacts, which you just KNOW are using black-market Klingon cloaking devices so you'll never find them? So rather than forlornly chasing an elusive enemy, were you to fly as a bomber escort, then the enemy would come TO YOU!

That's The Way To Do It!

    BWAHAHAHaHahaha

...and then I read that Polack and the OBT-boys had fallen prey to Bondi's tales of Big Hilda ... and the spell was broken

I'm firmly back in the Red camp for the replay. (Not sure if that's a help or a hindrance for the Reds, if I'm honest).

Anyway, Salute! to all; see you there

(Is Big Hilda the one with the doughnuts, or are they only available at Shady Sadie's Bordello where Meyer and the JG/52 gang hang out? These siren songs are so confusing....)

    Ha ha! Love it, Dougie!

You are quite right. Big Hilda is the one with 'the doughnuts!' However, The Blues enjoy the favours of 'Big Helga' who has been known to frequent Marquis West, Oye Plage as well as Shady Sadie's Bordello. In fact, she can be found anywhere where 9./JG 52 are posted...a bit like the camp followers of old!

As yet, Intelligence has been unable to confirm what foodstuffs, comestibles or..... 'services' she supplies...but rumour has it they are VERY good! LoL!

Ask Meyer and he will confirm (or deny) all! Ha ha!

I will be looking out for you tomorrow tonight, Dougie! Salute!

Joke's on you, I don't know if I even have access to those

More fun to fly when you don't know exactly what the other lot are doing, anyway.

.........the brave pilots on both sides faced this exact situation, Cyber....though they probably didn't think of it as.... 'fun!'

    Bondi!!!!!!

So it is now public knowledge that Bondi is......... the RED's greatest secret weapon! Ha ha!

This, of course, has nothing to do with the fact that the great Luftwaffe Ace, Reinhardt 'Bondi' Bonditaria crash landed his 109 on Manston during Adlertag 4 and is, even now...as we speak...trying to make his way back to France!

    Hopefully....... more later.....! Salute!

Re: ADLERTAG MISSION 5 'THE CLASH OF THE TITANS' will REFLY this Wednesday.

Great evening gents! For me it went a little something like this:

I took off from Gosport in a Spit barely clearing the trees that surround the airfield and joined Marlow, Snap, "Jakob", Dougie and the rest of the motley crew (I think we got about 8-10 airplanes in a blob) over Sandown.

At around 10:20 it was suggested in comms that we start heading south to intercept the 88 raid. After a quick check of the map I continued to follow who I believed were Marlow and Snap, South towards the bombers. After about 5 minutes of flying I realized that I was following somebody else and tried to find out who it was but I got no response on comms. The pair was traveling in the direction I believed the bombers will be so I decided to continue following not-Marlow and not-Snap in a wide formation scanning every direction for those bloody bombers.

We got up to 28.000 ft about 25-30 km off the south coast of Wight but after about 15 minutes of flying the pair decided to turn north most likely heading back to Wight which aligned with my own personal intentions.

I got to Wight, checked my fuel (half tank remaining) and began circling its coast when the chatter in TS pointed to the boys preparing to assemble over Sandown yet again to go for the Stuka raid. I quickly identified Marlow's bird and proceeded to get closer to him. Eventually we and about 4-5 more airplanes got in a holding pattern (actually several holding patterns) about 10-15 miles south-east of Sandown waiting for the bombers.

At around 11:25 the feeling that we might have miscalculated started creeping in when I hear Marlow's voice on comms: "I see the bombers at my 1 o'clock". I followed him into the bomber formation among the clouds and we started picking them off. I mostly targeted the Stukas he hit but who were still in formation hoping to get as many of them to drop or turn back as possible. When no such target presented itself I went for a "fresh one". Right as the Stuka formation left the clouds my engine started sputtering and I managed to get in one more pass on the bombers before the last drop of fuel was spent.

After the engine stopped I plotted a dead-stick glide towards Bembridge which brought me mostly aligned with the runway and I touched down just barely clearing the trees that surround the airfield. "SchiopulCiung returned to base" - One sortie, one full tank of gas, one full load of ammo, one hour and 40 minutes from takeoff to landing. As the clock was hitting midnight I decided to call it a night.

@ not-Marlow and not-Snap: I know you guys were probably bored out of your minds but I personally had a very pleasant flight following your formation.

Thank you all who participated for a very lovely Wednesday evening!!!

'Bored out of our minds?'.........not a bit of it, Chiung! It was a crackin' evening!

Yes, we Reds all took off from Gosport and climbed over Sandown. Still more or less together we set off south to search for the bombers. A number of Spitfires, including Chiung, moved a little west of Snap and I, obviously hell bent on a 'Cooks Tour' of the Isle of Wight. Meanwhile Dazza...'the eager beaver'....was already several miles south of Wight, acting as our advance scout and we fully expected him to encounter the bombers first. After some time of boring due south, we edged a little east, reasoning that because we had set off earlier we might miss the bombers entirely so we nudged a little eastward and the bombers were suddenly sited on our 1 o clock low.

What a sight they made! There must have been thirty or forty of them....but what to do? Do we go for the escort, who we could see above the mass...or do we go pell mell for the bombers, to try to reduce the damage on targets later on.

Ever decisive, Snap snapped out a quick: 'Bugger that! I'm going for the bombers!' And so it was decided. We were a good five or six thousand feet above the bombers so, once we dived we closed pretty fast. I took the left side of the raid, Snap the right. I aimed for the engines and immediately saw glycol spewing. I left that bomber to its fate and turned on another. All in all, I fired on at least three to four Ju 88's before I ran out of ammo and had to dive for Wight. For some reason, I was not attacked by the escort. Maybe they didn't see me.....or were so high above they couldn't pick me out from the mass of Ju 88's. What ever the reason, I 'got away with murder' and three bombers eventually went down.

And more Ju 88's went down as the rest of the Spitfires and dazz and the Hurricanes found them........ and the raid must have been considerably weakened by the time the bombs were dropped. I landed at Bembridge just as the fuel tanks there exploded! The fire effect was amazing....so well done! I respawned at Gosport and together with Chiung, Jack, Dazza, John and Douggie, eventually found the Stukas....another awesome raid coming in....and proceeded to lay about them! Again we were lucky.....as Dazza said: 'Help yourselves, Chaps! There's no escort! The 109's were possibly still busy escorting the Ju 88's to the north of Wight.

I remember thinking how lucky we were that we Reds didn't have bombers to escort! If Polak ever covers the Ram Rod and Rhubarb raids then we Reds will be for it!

After the Event was all but finished, I had a bit of a chat with Polak, who I discovered lives in St. Nazaire......of Commandos and HMS Campeltown fame! He was telling me about his future plans for Events. All I will say now is that he has some epic....historically accurate...and wildly exciting plans for the near future. I can't help thinking we have a lot to look forward to!

Watch this space, Chaps! Big Hilda has not 'sung'...... so.....it ain't over yet! Not by a long chalk! Salute!

Oh I wasn't talking about you and Snap I was talking about not-Marlow and not-Snap, the two anonymous souls that kept me company over the Channel when I got lost from the group
I know you and Snap had fun. You alone must have taken down about 10 birds (you were at 8.something kills when I logged out and there were still Stukas on the return flight some of which most likely didn't make it). I have never seen you score a higher kill count than last evening you went bananas on those bombers.

I also have a question that's really been bugging me:

Does anybody know if clouds affect the precision of AI gunners? I have done 5 passes on the Stuka formation while they were in the clouds and I didn't even get scratched. Last Saturday, in clear weather, they pierced my engine on the second pass in an instant. As they were coming out of the clouds it seemed like the tracers were getting closer, hence my question. It could also be that their aim improved as I spent more time in their proximity but it felt like the clouds played a part.

It is true Marlow, the Spitfire turns out to be a very nice ride. As you know I haven't flown the Spitfire regularly in online combat: when I used to fly for Red years ago, it was almost always in a Hurricane. I enjoyed flying the 109E's but the F versions never appealed to me for some reason. I'm happy to be in Spitfire now! S!

This is a video of my second trip on Saturday. I was watching a group of Spitfires above me flying around in circles, then the air-raid sirens started.. I scrambled and got a chance to put some damage on an enemy Bf 109E3 fighter. Flak was heavy and there were other RAF chaps wanted to shoot too, so I left the fight as soon as I was certain he would never make it back home... After a long patrol chasing shadows I came back to Southampton and made a nice three-point landing, holding the nose extraordinarily high.

ah that was sparrow and myself in the other two spits, we had made a couple of passes on him (I think you see us initially diving on him in the distance as you close in). Unfortunately my accuracy is nowhere near as good as yours, but I was actually driven off my second pass when flak went whanging passed my wingtip much like it does you. I thought I had a second 109 behind me that I hadnt seen. Nice shooting and nice to know who the third pilot was - it was only when sparrow said it wasnt him shot 109 that I realised I had latched back to wrong wingman.
