    A/C Timeline Research?

    Hi Folks,

Can you recommend a book or resource for the following? Say you want to construct a relatively accurate timeline of a particular front (say western front) from 1940 to 1945 so that this can be used as a reference to decide which planes could potentially fight each other in a given location with a given time.

List of introductions of planes and what times
List of boost/mw-50/gm-1 restrictions and allowances and at what times
List of squadrons and JG - nice to have

Maybe a book or resource like that already exists? Or is it wishful thinking and one has to do the legwork from multiple sources about airplanes/squadrons and engines..?

    thanks!

Most of the books I am going to recommend can be bought used through Abe Books or Thrift Books and often come to me from the UK. Some are not cheap even used. I highly recommend getting a monthly subscription to Everand www.everand.com. Most of the books below are freely available to read. Then if you feel you need to touch it, you can buy. Also it's sister product Scribd for lots of pdf's and such. You won't see the Battle of Britain Combat Archive on Everand though.

Zillions of diary style books on BoB.

    Lean into France

The RAF's Cross-Channel Offensive by John Starkey (on Everand)
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/RAFs-Cross-...s%2C323&sr=8-1
This book has a lot of data comparing the peformance of various marks/versions of the aircraft as they faced each other over 1940-1942 and discusses how that affected the battle over Western Europe. He is not kind about the folly of the RAF strategy of wasting lives for little gain, much like the Luftwaffe attempted to do over Britain.

Fighter Command's Air War in 1941 by Norman Franks (on Everand)
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fighter-Com...s%2C160&sr=8-1

Bomber Command during Battle of Britain

The Other Few by Larry Donnelly
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Other-Few-C...s%2C171&sr=8-1

Bomber Command's Forgotten Summer by Paul Tweedle (Everand)

    North Africa
The Mediterranean Air War Volumes 1-5 by Christopher Shores (Everand)
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/History-Med...s%2C158&sr=8-4

    This should get you going.

These two volumes are an excellent read and a great reference source for the Western Front.

Britain's national archive https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ has the wartime squadron operational logs for each squadron available for download.
