    WWII VKB problem

    Hi everyone:

First I still think this is the best sim out there second and very sadly I seem to have this problem with my what I think is the perfect feeling stick for me my WWII VKB. What happens is it shuts down as if it's unplugged. It's not the USB port because I have switched other devices in this port to confirm this. Also I came back to my old reliable Logitech 3d pro in the same port and no problem has come up. I think these stick have got to be the toughest things out there but I really don't like the feel of them. Does anyone know what might be wrong?

    Win 10

Sounds like it's more a VKB issue if the other stick works fine. Sorry I can't help, I use VKB GNX modules and pedals, but not their stick.
Maybe you'd get more specific help using the VKB forum.

Sounds like a windows power management issue.
Windows will put usb ports to sleep when not in use because of energy efficiency and energy wastage issues.
Plugging another device into them simply wakes them up. If you unplugged your vkb gladiator and plugged it back in, would it work?

You need to go into power management from control panel, go into advanced settings, usb settings, disable usb selective suspend settings and then to the device manager, usb controllers, right click, properties, power management, then uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on all items under that drop down box. Also do the same for any item in Human interface devices. NB some items in HID don't show power management tab so only the ones you can change ...

Ideally, you should be running your pc on "ultimate power plan" in windows to get the best out of it while gaming. On some PC's it's not even installed and has to be downloaded from microsoft. If you don't have that power plan, get it first before changing anything else i listed above. First thing to do is stop the PC from putting anything to sleep or making the processor reduce performance. set it to 99% min processor state via the power plan.

As you can see from my sig, I have the VKB gladiator and it works fine with the settings above.

If that doesn't sort the issue I'd be surprised. Maybe it might be a cable or port on the back of the stick base where the usb cable goes.

Yes it always works again when plugged back in. I'll try what you've suggested and thanks.

Ok I found a "high Performance" option and clicked that

OK so i found that Microsoft actually put the Ultimate power plan in windows builds at some point after I downloaded it, but hid it on some versions of win 10. It's now a lot easier to activate it.

To enable the Ultimate Performance power plan on Windows 10, you don't download a file, but rather enable it with a command in an administrator Command Prompt or PowerShell.

Open an elevated Command Prompt (run as administrator), then type or paste the command

    powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

    and press Enter.

After the command runs, restart PC and then open control panel and choose Power Options and select the Ultimate Performance plan from the "Show additional plans" section

Even the high performance power plan you switched to will park CPU cores to save energy. The ultimate plan won't.

You still also need to go into the plan and prevent windows shutting down USB ports and into device manager and stop individual items in USB Controllers and HID (Human Interface Devices) and stop windows from shutting them down as described in my first reply.

    (EDIT ....)

NO IDEA WHY MY POST DUPLICATED

    Re: WWII VKB problem

Just for some additional help, the following screenshots show you how to edit the settings I describe

This one shows how to edit the power plan for USB settings and processor power state minimum...

    edit plan.jpg

This one shows one of the USB Controller properties power management settings and making sure the box highlighted is unchecked. Windows might shut it down to save power. Do this for all items under USB controlelrs and under Human Interface devices.
