    Star Citizen - due 2014?

Anyone else signed up for Star Citizen? (space sim, open world - by the creator of Wing Commander series)

    http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/

It'd be great if those of us from CloD, who were thinking of playing this game when it comes out, could team up and create some havoc! A couple of the guys form 92 sqn have already got memberships.... eagerly awaitign this release.

Looks pretty good Phil! Hope they use a true physics model to fly. Most space games /sims act like they are flying in an atmosphere. Graphics are super.

I get the impression that physics will be important. They're talking about how many engines required to ensure thrust in all degrees of movement, plus how momentum (no gravity/ low gravity + no atmosphere) is managed for ships already.

Should be good from that perspective.

Can't say that space/fantasy interests me but this does look good. I could only wish this guy had a passion for WW2 aircraft and the re-creation of real history.

I'm with you Torian! Space isn't really my thing, but this game does look good. I'd love it if Chris Roberts put his skills towards a WW2 flight sim....

Re: Star Citizen - due 2014?

I've appreciated science fiction forever, my bookshelves are full of it, but pc or console sci-fi games have never quite hit the spot for me. I saw the first clips of Mr Roberts launching his kickstarter thingy and was impressed then.
I'm still impressed now, but getting involved depends on what the eventual business model is, and looking at the level of fidelity in the graphics, what kind of new computer I'd need............

But flying a space fighter in an environment which looks like all the Hubble pics put together would be fantastic, so I'll have a serious look on release.

    +1 to all the above.

The name Chris Roberts rang a bell when I clicked on the link, sort of a "I wonder what happened to Chris?" -type thought. Glad to see he's back at it. Not only is he good with the technicals, but he's a helluva story maker as well.

Re: Star Citizen - due 2014?

I pledged the lowest amount possible to get alpha & beta access - think it was around $40. There's an immense amount of hype about Star Citizen and Chris Roberts has a habit of over-promising and not quite delivering (though not to Molyneux-esque proportions at least!). There's a lot of people literally expecting the greatest game of all time and I think there's a fair chance they might end up being a bit disappointed. If that's the way it goes I'm just out $40 - no big deal. I'd feel sorry for those who have shelled out some major bucks though to secure the high-end ships so hopefully it all goes well and a good game arrives in Nov 2014.

Re: Star Citizen - due 2014?

I think Star Citizen is going to be amazing. I loved the combat of space sims of old. It's been so long since there's been any sort of Wing Commander / Privateer type space sim. I hope it delivers. I bought a ship a while back

Re: Star Citizen - due 2014?

Star Citizen does look pretty cool, but to be honest, I am kind of more looking forward to Rogue System (assuming all goes well, and I think it should). I just absolutely love the idea of hopping into an interceptor, getting all the systems running and manageable, and actually running through the procedure of getting out of the station, executing a mission, and getting back in again.

Star Citizen does look like an incredible amount of fun to play with friends though - lets see how long we go without absolutely ruining our spaceship

That would be pretty cool. I have an RSI Constellation ready for a crew

I can't wait to be able to walk around it for a bit! Hopefully the hanger module comes out soon.

    Hangar is out today Bliss!

    I've got a Freelancer and A Origin 325i (fighter)
There are four 92 Sqn. guys with ships already. We're going to fly together as the 92 squadron East India Trading Company!

Will look out for you once the ability to visit each other's hangars is made available.

Re: Star Citizen - due 2014?

First I've heard of it, but as someone who wasted far too much time on the original Elite I have to say I've been waiting a while for something like this! If it came with a free timewarp drive then I could muster enough time to play both this *and* CloD

On a good day you can still hear the rumble of the Merlin flying overhead.

    Very cool.

I, like Bliss, also have a Constellation needing not only a crew but a Captain.

    I have a plan.

Re: Star Citizen - due 2014?

    So between the Clod players so far we've got;

    Bliss
    1 x Constellation

    LRRP
    1 x hornet
    1 x Constellation

    Philstyle
    1 x Freelancer
    1 x Origin 325i

    Strings
    1 x Freelancer
    1 x Origin 325i

    Nudge:
    1 x Origin 325i

    Mike:
    1 x Aurora (I think)

    In total:
    Constellations: 2
    Freelancers: 2
    Hornet: 1
    Origin 325i: 3
    Aurora: 1

    9 ships... not bad.....

    To that you can add:

    Hessle:
    1 x Aurora

Ten ships we know of so far. And remember, the "Connie's" carry one launchable snub fighter each. That's twelve!
Certainly not a fleet but a powerful little task force me-thinks.

I think NakedSquirrel has a 300i as well.

All those ships sounds like a nice little task force indeed!

Phil, you seem to be well up for this. I'm pretty interested myself, but haven't been involved in anything like this sort of 'crowd funding' before. Frankly, the whole cost thing looks pretty scary. Ok, you can pay $30 for the ultra-basic entry level, but the top price to pay is Five Thousand Dollars. $5000. Before anything much happens. Five Thousand Dollars????
