    Honestly I don't have that much to say at the moment. The next patch scheduled for release is the update to 1.2.6 already announced here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114584. Being that it is primarily designed to fix stability issues, it has little to do with the Huey and Hip specifically and will include only the minimum new changes needed to address those problems so as to minimize the chances of fouling something else up at the same time. If all goes well, we will then move on to the next big update, which may or may not be 1.2.7 and will likely feature more updates dedicated to the Huey and Hip.

    In terms of what we've been working on internally, it's mostly been the external cargo model for the Huey, numerous cockpit updates and fixes for the Hip, and some command updates and fixes. Sorry, but no dramatic new features yet.

    In this subject, I will spread the realized changes and additions to the Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight.

    News No. 1.
    Imitation of work of the flight mechanic, regarding fine tuning of the autopilot is realized.
    Normal work of the autopilot is characterized by fluctuations of arrows "K", "T", on the (IN-4) trim indicator of the automatic flight control system, about neutral situation.



    In case arrows "T" or "K" are near an emphasis, the crew chief station, at the command of the first pilot, is obliged to put them neutrally, handles of centering of channels of a list or pitch on the (AP-34B) autopilot control panel.



    Fine tuning of the autopilot in game had to be done by means of teams or by means of a computer mouse manually, and also method of shutdown and the subsequent inclusion of the autopilot that distracted the user from flight process as the piloting user in game one for all. And in real, fine tuning of the autopilot, the crew member, free from piloting, carries out.
    Now in game an additional option - the autopilot's auto-adjust. At activation by the user of an option - "AUTOPILOT ADJUSTMENT", fine tuning of indexes on the (IN-4) trim indicator of the automatic flight control system, to neutral situation, will be automatically carried out, without intervention of the user.



    The team which can be adjusted on buttons of the keyboard or the pilot's handle is also entered into game. When pressing by the player, on the button on a pilot's cyclic control stick or a key - "Adjust Autopilot", fine tuning of indexes on (IN-4) trim indicator of the automatic flight control system, from any situation, before achievement on IN-4, neutral situation will begin indexes.



    Thus, the first pilot MI8MTV2 , can not distract from the fundamental professional obligations now, and pay a maximum of attention to flight.

    SARPP-12 system (System of Automatic Registration of Flight Data) now has animated panel. (System itself is NOT modeled)






    Designation.
    System of Automatic Registration of Flight Data SARPP-12 enables registration and storage of flight data in normal and emergency flight conditions.
    SARPP-12 is turned on by putting switch to "РУЧН" position. Alternatively with switch being in "АВТ" position SARPP-12 turns on only having pressure in main or auxiliary hydraulic systems, or upon activation of one of ajar switches located on shock struts of main gear after helicopter gets in the air.
    The function of magnetic tape transport mechanism can be checked by presence of blinking green annunciator "САРПП РАБОТАЕТ" which together with "САРПП-12" switch is located on a left side panel in cockpit.
    System to be powered on manually before engines start and powered off also manually after complete engines stop.
    In simulator (game) only animation of SARPP-12 is implemented. No data registration or recording is present.

    Fully implemented model of KO-50 kerosene powered defroster.
    KO-50 kerosene powered defroster is installed on a right hand side outside cargo compartment to the fore of fuel tank and is covered by special nacelle.



    KO-50 kerosene powered defroster is designed to heat up the air supplied to helicopter compartments.




    KO-50 controls are located at the pilots’ right electric board.





    The TV-1 thermometer designated for control of air temperature in passengers’ compartment is located at the right dash board.



    It’s recommended to turn on the KO-50 in “heating mode” having OAT/FAT below +10°C while engines running on the ground or using ground electric power, in flight at any time for except autorotation mode.

    There are no limitations running KO-50 in “ventilation” mode.

    1. Start up and usage of defroster in automatic temperature adjustment mode.
    To start defroster in mentioned mode it is needed to:
    1. Turn on DC power.
    2. Turn on "KO-50" switch.
    3. Set temperature selector to +30°С.
    4. Set mode selector switch to "автомат"(auto) position.
    5. Press and hold for 2–3 seconds the "запуск"(start) button.

    Fuel preheater starts to function, a yellow annunciator panel “ПОДОГРЕВ ТОПЛИВА”(fuel preheating) lights up. When fuel temperature reaches 70 ±50°С (preheating time 35 ±15 seconds) fuel preheater turns off automatically, yellow annunciator panel “ПОДОГРЕВ ТОПЛИВА” goes dark. Simultaneously with fuel preheater shut down heater ignition and electric fan systems gets turned on. To annunciator panels lights up: yellow – “ЗАЖИГАНИЕ”(ignition), green – “ОБОГРЕВАТЕЛЬ РАБОТАЕТ НОРМАЛЬНО”(defroster functions normally). The annunciator panel “ЗАЖИГАНИЕ”(ignition) should go dark not later than after 2 minutes counting from "запуск"(start) button gets pressed. Defrosted is to be considered functioning when yellow annunciator panel “ЗАЖИГАНИЕ”(ignition) goes dark and green annunciator panel “ОБОГРЕВАТЕЛЬ РАБОТАЕТ НОРМАЛЬНО”(defroster functions normally) stays lit. After defroster start required temperature for helicopter compartments to be set using temperature selector switch.

    2. Start up and usage of defroster in manual temperature adjustment mode.
    Set “ЗАЛИВКА –ПОЛНЫЙ РЕЖИМ –СРЕДНИЙ РЕЖИМ”(priming – maximum mode – half mode) mode selector switch to “ПОЛНЫЙ РЕЖИМ”(maximum mode) position (having OAT/FAT lower than -13°С) or “СРЕДНИЙ РЕЖИМ”(half mode) (-13°С to +15°С).

    To start defroster in mentioned mode it is needed to:
    1. Turn on DC power.
    2. Turn on "KO-50" switch.
    3. Set temperature selector to any position.
    4. Select “ПОЛНЫЙ РЕЖИМ –СРЕДНИЙ РЕЖИМ”(maximum mode - half mode) mode using switch located on a right dash board.
    5. Set mode selector switch to "ручной"(manual) position.
    6. Press and hold for 2–3 seconds the "запуск"(start) button.

    Further equipment functioning it similar to start up in automatic mode.
    Defroster function in ventilation mode.
    When using defroster for cabin ventilation in summer time turn on KO-50 switch and “ВЕНТИЛ.”(fan) switch to on position.

    Turning off KO-50 defroster.
    To turn off defroster set mode selector switch to neutral position. Green annunciator panel “ОБОГРЕВАТЕЛЬ РАБОТАЕТ НОРМАЛЬНО”(defroster functions normally) goes dark. But fan still stays on. Air supplied by fan eliminates fuel from combustion chamber, cools down calorifier. Fan gets turned off by automatic temperature sensor when temperature of air coming from defroster drops below +50°C.

    «П-503Б» cockpit voice recorder is designed for registration of information and special signals coming from radios' output channels or intercom on wire medium.
    Voice recorder control is carried out from commander's pannel located on a left hand side electric console.

    Voice recorder should be turned on before engines' start, turned off - after helicopter landing and complete engines' shut down.

    Signal flare system is now made fully operational..
    Two ЭКСР-46 electrified signal flare cartridges are installed in left hand cargo bay aft door.




    Every single cartridge contains four flares (red, green, yellow and white).
    Flares gets activated from two «7П622» control consoles located on the left hand electric panel.




    Console allows for single or burst (up to four) flare launch by pressing one or several corresponding console buttons. Before any operations with flares control panel circuit breakers АЗСГК-5 "РАКЕТЫ-СИРЕНА" on left hand overhead panel and 7П622 on flares’ panel should be turned on.



    Now virtual pilot of Mi-8MTV2 can draw attention to himself by means of signal flares.

    Siren is implemented.

    Mi-8MTV sirena system belongs to assault-transport equipment.
    To give an audio signal for troops the S-1 siren is installed on overhead pannel at frame 6 in cargo bay.
    To turn on siren the following actions to be done:
    − turn ON switch «РАКЕТЫ / СИРЕНА»;




    − press «СИРЕНА» (siren) button located near to external payload control pannel.



    Siren will sound and annunciator pannel «СИРЕНА ВКЛЮЧЕНА» (siren is on) will light up. Upon button release siren will turn off as well as annunciator pannel.



    Now You shouldn't be worrying about troops, they'll disembark in right time hearing the powerful sound of siren activated by You.

    «АВТОМАТ. СБРОС» (automatic release) switch is now functional.



    Electrical equipment of external load contains DG-64M lock.





    DG-64M lock is equipped with an automatic release mechanism. Which is activated by "Внешняя подвеска – Автоматический сброс" (external load - automatic release) switch on a middle electric panel.

    Lock status is indicated by "ЗАМОК ОТКРЫТ" (lock is open) green annunciator panel on middle electric panel.



    In flight lock can be opened by pressing tactical or emergency buttons located on cyclic stick.




    "Автоматический сброс" (automatic release) switch should be off during flight.

    When it's necessary lock can be opened automatically. On approach to cargo unload area turn on "Автоматический сброс" (automatic relase) switch. After cargo is on the ground and tension of slings is less than 20 +/-8 kg, automatics will open the lock and slings will be released.

    The external resistance for voltage control of STG-3 starter-generator is now implemented. Circuit breaker is located on the right hand electric panel.




    Standby generator voltage is controlled before it's getting turned in aircraft electrical system by putting rotary switch to «РЕЗЕР ГЕН» (Standby generator) position.



    While checking the AI-9V engine work it's also necessary to check the function of STG-3 starter-generator. To do that it's needed having normal AI-9V engine RPM to put voltage control rotary switch to «РЕЗЕР ГЕН» (Standby generator) position.
    Voltmeter V-1 should indicate voltage of 27 ... 28 V.
    In case of voltage runaway adjust it by tuning external resistance (РЕГУЛИР.НАПРЯЖ.) located on the right hand electric panel.

    The external resistance "VS-33А" «I — РЕГУЛИРОВАНИЕ НАПРЯЖЕНИЯ — II» (I - voltage control - II) is now implemented.



    After generators are turned on it's needed to activate load and check voltages of the busses. As a load should be turned on: rectifiers, maximum possible quantity of DC consumers, radios and navigation equipment. Voltage can be controlled via rotary switch according to voltmeter VF-0.4-250 indication.



    Electrical system also contain voltage control between generators' phases (line voltage), external power and ~115 V lines voltages control. The external resistances "VS-33А" «I — РЕГУЛИРОВАНИЕ НАПРЯЖЕНИЯ — II» (I - voltage control - II) adjust generators' voltages to 204 V. In operation of electrical system phase-to-phase (line voltage) generators' voltages should be within the range of 200 to 208 V.

    For the purpose of bigger approach of perception of management Mi-8MTB2 of DCS to real, specialists of the company Belsimtek enter into game new control for joysticks - "JOYSTICK WITHOUT SPRINGS AND FFB".



    That is trimming option for joysticks without springs and without feedback (FFB – Force Feedback)."

    Features of use of joysticks of various designs.

    As in the real helicopter the handle of a cyclic step of the helicopter, practically never is in strictly central situation and at the same time the mechanism of trim effect is actively used (fixing by springs of any situation CYCLIC CONTROL SYSTEM), the joystick with feedback (FFB) which also, as well as in real can fix the handle in any place of admissible range of movements, is ideal option for management of helicopter model. Position of the handle of the joystick with feedback (FFB) always corresponds to situation CYCLIC CONTROL SYSTEM in a virtual cabin. Almost exact imitation of work of CYCLIC CONTROL SYSTEM, as in the real helicopter is created. In the ordinary joystick the handle is kept by springs in the central situation, and the player needs or to overcome constantly efforts of springs, or to use function of the "EXPECTATION of RETURN TO the CENTER" control that does not allow to play comfortably on models of helicopters.

    Because joysticks with FFB feedback, are rather rare on sale presently, and also are quite expensive, enthusiasts of the Mi-8MTB2 module with support Belsimtek conducted research on the basis of the COBRA M5 joystick



    , for the purpose of a possibility of its completion regarding acquisition of the main property by it from FFB joysticks – possibilities of free movement and deduction without efforts of the handle of the game device on any mode of flight of model of the helicopter.,
    Centering springs which keep the handle in the center were removed from the COBRA M5 joystick. And under axes of longitudinal and cross rocking chairs, washers, for the purpose of creation of loading effect for the joystick handle were enclosed (that there was no "falling" of the handle at a hand).

    For a perception correctness the simulator of such modifed joystick and at the same time preservations of sound effect of trimming into game entered new control for joysticks with the withdrawn springs - "JOYSTICK WITHOUT SPRINGS AND FFB".
    This function allows to synchronize when pressing the button of the trimmer position of the virtual handle with position of the handle of the joystick on various modes of flight.

    Flights on DCS: Mi-8 MTB2, with use of the COBRA M5 joystick and remote springs, showed excellent imitation of work of CYCLIC CONTROL SYSTEM, full compliance of situation CYCLIC CONTROL SYSTEM in a virtual cabin and joystick handles. Running start of indexes of the autopilot decreased, management became more exact, unpleasant twitchings of the handle of management when using the "trimming with return to the center" mode due to the lack of need of return of the handle of the joystick to the central situation for removal of effort from joystick springs disappeared. In general flights became more smooth.

    Testing was carried out by real pilots of MI-8 who confirmed high extent of approach of motility of movements with the handle of the COBRA M5 joystick with remote springs to work as real CYCLIC CONTROL SYSTEM.

    It is natural that some time should be spent for accustoming to the new scheme of management, to wean from finding of the handle of management of the joystick in the center. But more real feelings received subsequently when flying on "eight", compensate everything!

    At desire to feel how moves in flight of CYCLIC CONTROL SYSTEM of the real helicopter, to receive more exact skills of management of the eight, each user, using these recommendations, will be able to make simple alterations of the joystick.

    Among the others fixes and additions in DCS: Mi-8MTV2, we added a possibility to use AI door and rear gunners (Door gunned with “KORD” 12.7 mm machine gun and rear gunner with PKT machine gun 7.62 mm), ability to play as door gunner. Sling-load operations gameplay was thoroughly upgraded and fixed. Pilot’s guide manual was dramatically reworked: systems principles and operations described in depth, all procedures from startup to weapon employment thoroughly illustrated. New campaign from 3rd party developer will be available soon after release state of module.

    Development of DCS: Mi-8MTV2 was started in first quarter of 2013 by Belsimtek. For various reasons we couldn’t finish module development to “release” state (our internal quality control was the reason).

    A lot of things were fixed and added since we released module to early access.

    Here are the main changes which were made for this period:

    Fixed and added helicopter systems, 32 additions in sum, diary of fixes for systems can be found in news about this module:

    Destructive overload was fine-tuned (gear break possibility, tail rotor breakaway), gear friction, damage system from projectiles hits tuned, crew cabin armor implemented.
    Cockpit sound was tuned and fixed according to real Mi-8 pilots feedback.
    Sling-load gameplay upgraded: new loads were added ( 8 so far, more to come with updates) with their dynamics tuned, sling damage upon contact with helicopter implemented, crew chief sling-load operation voice commands added.
    AI door and rear gunners added ( Door gunned with “KORD” 12.7 mm machine gun and rear gunner with PKT machine gun 7.62 mm), with ability to play as door gunner. Different predefined settings for combined TrackIR and mouse interactions for view and machine gun controls were added.
    Gun Camera added.
    Special options for module were changed, including addition of joystick without springs and FFB option.
    Pilot’s guide was reworked, every procedure illustrated, systems descriptions added (including frequently asked questions on forums), typos and inaccuracies fixed (guide colume increased by 100%).
