Connection Time Out only on ATAG's (Solved!)

Hey Folks,

my wingman cant connect to ATAG's server since shorttime befor TF 4.00

We try

- Serverbrowser connecting
- Direct connect over ATAG's Homepage (Connect-Button)
- Direct connect with Desktop-link
- Steam-Friend Follow-Connection

all other servers no problem to connecting...

what we can do ?

Hi Yellow,

There's a known issue when the PC has multiple network cards. Even some printers add a virtual card.
Please ask him to disable all the network cards except the one used to get to the internet and try again.

yes we check that already and him have only one networkcard installed...
him also can connect to every other server only atag's let him stay outside in the rain

also him asked me "atag's banned me ? and if yes why ?"
this i have long time bevore also... may be you remember my question about this

still not have any idea what to do

I figured this issue out. I read all the posts about it - and came up with this solution.

ANSWER: Place your local IP Address in the hosts file in windows.

-Navigate to the: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
-Open the hosts file with notepad with your LAN IP and Computer Short Name (FQDN not necessary)
-Place an entry in the file like: 123.123.123.123 mymachinename
-Save the file to hosts.tmp
-Open a cmd(DOS) window in Administrator mode
-> cd C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
-> copy hosts hosts.bak
-> copy hosts.tmp hosts
Answer (Yes)
-> Restart CLoD

Validation: You should see your LAN IP now in your Network configuration drop down box

How I found this: Seen similar NX issues revolving around host file being borked, loss of connection to servers because UDP can, and TCP can't hit services. You should notice you now can connect directly through IP port.
Troubleshooting: Observed symptoms... I reloaded game and, noticed that I wasn't even getting wrong version on ATAG server with no MODs. I installed Tcpview and looked at the listeners and connectors as I succeeded on any server but the ATAG server, also, regardless direct connect wouldn't work. I saw the network setting that couldn't be changed. I parsed all the config files and never saw 127.0.0.1 anywhere. One place in windows it exists... host file.

Hi Guys,
I have the same issue, I can fly on other servers but not atag -I have an issue with the work around given -although I start notepad in admin mode when I go to save the new host file as host.tmp I get a permission denied -im not too sure If I nee to run something else as Admin -?

Does this fix works for the "cannot find host name" bug too ?

I had it yesterday. server crashed when I was in.
when it restarts, it was impossible for two of us (we where 10) to reconnect. and we had the above message.
We tried many things :
restart game
restart steam
restart modem
connect another server (it works of course) before to retry
open our own server
connect through VPN
connect direct from website
connect with IP
etc.

we know this happen from time to time, but we haven't found something else than to wait server restart to be able enter.

My gaming PC is one of four PCs on a wired home network. I have just noticed that in the Clod Options/Network settings screen the host address is different to my PCs network I.P. address. It doesn't appear possible to type in the correct address.

Is there a config file entry somewhere?

well, I ran ipconfig/all from the Dos promt, as suggested in a similar thread and I only appear to have the one.
Also, I have been able to connect in the past with the same PC.

Yeah..sorted

I went into the Local Area Connections Properties and manually changed the network IP address of my PC to match the address showing in the Clod Network options screen.

if you do all this and the problem persists, create another profile on steam, add as a friend and share the game .. surely will work
