    Campaign-beta

As it's Xmas I want to release this as an ATAG bonus.
It is a 30+ mission campaign designed from the floor up to be TF 4.0 compatible.
It also comes with 13 custom skins for the player Squadron- these have been done by checkmysix (aka keefyboy round here) so are rather bloody nice
The number of missions is NOT fixed, but it is a scripted campaign- however success in some missions will trigger 'bonus' missions or put you in positions higher up in the Squadron- eg Flight leader or section leader.
There are ~10 'bonus' missions so there is a degree of 'replayability' built in- and I'm not telling what the mission success criteria are
    - but landing back at Kenley would be a good start
Thjere is also a kills/stats system similar to that used in the REDUX campaigns which will keep track of your kills, missions completed successfully etc.
It is very historically based on the exploits of 501 Squadron during their time at Kenley, from 10th Sept through to December.- even the bonus missions are actual missions that were flown
As such it uses all 3 of the Channel maps brought in with TF 4.0
It also concentrates on the battles that occurred after the 'traditional end' of the Battle of Britain. As such you will be flying the Hurricane at heights upto 30,000ft against 109's who will have an advantage at these heights, so it will not be easy....
Indeed just climbing to height and keeping up with your Squadron can be a challenge- but it is perfectly possible.
If you wish I have done a track of a takeoff/climb- it's 25mb- might help you get a flavour of what to expect.
    http://www.mediafire.com/download/mm...hppu/climb.rar
There are also several takeoff types- some missions are cold starts in the revetments, others are the more normal 'stream' takeoff from the runway, but there are also some 'mass scramble' takeoffs

It is not an easy campaign- both on the player and the computer- there are some missions with 100+ AC and I use clouds extensively (the new extended clouds is highly recommended ). A pretty good rig is recommended (and no- I'm not doing a 'lite' version- sorry but the missions just doesn't work as far as I'm concerned)

There is a rather long readme which I would encourage you to read

It is also still somewhat beta- I wanted to wait till 4.01 was out but had set a Xmas deadline for myself- so all feedback is welcome- I expect to have to do a few 'tweaks' when 4.01 is released

You can suspend said pudding from string above your PC allowing you to munch at will?

    Re: Campaign-beta

Just have to post again to say thanks. Stayed up way too late last night and got about 5-6 missions done. My squadron mates must think I am a bit of a liability, my formation flying leaves a lot to be desired so I've resigned myself to a weaver role for now, not totally historically inaccurate and usually the first to get shot down, so that certainly rings true!

This campaign is just awesome so far. From the excellent briefing screens, to the take offs, having to rush to keep up and not blow the engine, to the most spectacular dogfights I've ever seen, to trying really hard to nurse my crippled hurri back to kenley from Canterbury to get the 'good show' (I crash landed about 200m short of the perimeter ) It is really showing the full potential of this sim as an immersive, interactive Battle of Britain experience for the first time. Although I love multiplayer, this tops it in the immersion stakes imo, it just feels much more realistic.

My favourite bit so far was dropping in behind a flight of 9 dorniers, while being able to see another 4 flights of 9 ahead and two squadrons of raf fighters plus 109 escorts crashing vertically through the bomber formations and tracer going off everywhere, truly amazing! It does get a bit stuttery on my rig, which is pretty high spec, but its not really surprising with the sheer amount of action going on around you and it doesn't detract too much from the gameplay.

Once again, thanks so much for this Bolox, with campaigns of this quality now emerging I can't wait to see what the future holds for clod, it is really coming of age. I hope you will be doing more historical squadron based campaigns like this, and if you ever need any help with research I would be more than willing to help.

I downloaded and installed this per the instructions but it keeps failing on the first mission. It doesn't always fail the same way. The following things have happened when I click on fly: 1. Sometimes I get a Laucher failure right at the end of the progress bar. 2. One time after the progress bar it went t the screen where you can look at the plane, load, etc. but there was no picture of the plane when I click on plane and it failed shortly thereafter. 3. Sometimes after the progress bar completes it goes directly to the plane in the mission, skipping the screen where you normally can look at the plane/loadout, and then fails. All my other campaigns work fine.

I have attached my dxdiag and I am using the Razor Game Booster which has fixed all the stuttering in the other campaigns.

I also cleared the cache before running this campaign.

Has anyone else had these problems?

    Thanks,
    Alan

    Re: Campaign-beta

    that's strange.
Not sure if DXDiag is relevant- or does the game do this on other missions? your post history suggests you have had problems in the past, but you seem to say they now work ok?
some of them point to you using win7 32bit- the first part of DXDiag says you have win7 64 bit and 16Gb ram?

I have had missions cause launcher failures that worked on previous patches with a similar pattern of failure to that you describe. As the mission is fairly light on objects (compared to the rest) I am somewhat mystified- I very occasionally see this kind of crash when I get 'silly' with the number of trains- this mission there are 8 trains and a few bikes, a number I would regard as fairly light/normal

I would remind you of this part of the readme
I would suggest quad core CPU of >~3.5mhz,
I think you are at the low end of what will get a half decent experience- but I know players have used less (and struggled, but the missions ran).

I have no experience with Game Booster but if you think it works for you then fine. (but have you tried without it?)

Sorry, can't think of an obvious reason why this is happening.

I am using Win 7 64 and do have 16 gigs of ram. The games work well on all other campaigns/missions. I can't past, or even into the first (relocation) mission in this campaign. I am trying to find a quad core cpu that works in my 760GM-P23 (FX) but am having problems getting any vendor to tell me if a Athlon II X4 works on this board. I would think the tri-core would work okay on the first mission. I will try to run it without the game booster and see what happens.

    Thanks.

suggests it does support quad cores- but I have been caught out with that before

I really can't see why it wouldn't run the first mission.

One thing that might be worth trying is to copy the missions from the campaign int single missions folder (liraries/Documents/1C SoftClub/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover-MOD/missions/single) and run from there. If mis 1 doesn't work try others.

Other than that try redownloading and/or unpacking with another program (I packed it with win.rar what are you using?)
(also I made an error and left a 'V2' folder containing earlier missions it might be worth trying version from here????)- really am clutching at straws tho...

I got it to work using the Razor Game Booster. I was starting the game from Game Booster instead of from Steam, which starts the booster when you start the game. When I start from Steam it works fine, both the game and the booster. I do get an occasionally slow down but I think that is from my processer. I ordered a quad processer and hopefully that will fix the fps issue when the are large amounts of planes. I would recommend the Razor Game Booster for those have fps issues. It basically automatically closes unneeded services running in the background. It is free and can be downloaded at:http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster

This campaign is excellent and I am looking forward to trying your new Malta Campaign.

    Re: Campaign-beta

Just wanted to say thanks for this bolox!

Out of curiosity, is this affected by the "lawndart" bug which popped up in TF4.0?

    Bon courage!

A little, the lawndarting is more prevalent with the AI 109's when they are dogfighting at low level. Skill setting also affects it. As most of the missions are at higher altitudes it isn't very apparent. It doesn't affect Hurri's
Does mean I've got a bit(?) of reworking of AI skill levels to do for a final 4.2 version, but it isn't a big problem (imho).
