Spitfire is in front of the pilot. Hurricane is wing roots and in front of cockpit. 109 it goes from under the pilot to behind it.

BF 109E - 'L' shaped fuel tank behind the cockpit armor plate and under the pilot seat.

Spitfire Mk I. - Upper (48gal) and Lower (37gal) just forward of the cockpit instrument panel.

**NOTE** The rear tanks and drop tank are for later model Spits. The Mk I and II (all variants) only had the forward tanks.
This was just the best picture I could find of the tanks being labeled.

EDIT - Jhat beat me to it

I apologize for the sloppy photoshop work on highlighting the tanks.
Certain cutaways are not specifically models found in CloD, but their fuel tank arrangement is very similar, if not unchanged.

Note that the 109's fuel tank at the time of the BoB was not self sealing.

It was protected by an angled multilayered laminated sheet of aluminum which was intended to deflect rounds directly from the rear.

The Spit II fuel tank is self sealing. The Spit I and Hurricane were not self sealing initially, but in September, aircraft began to be re-equipped with self sealing tanks. Currently the Spit I's and Hurris are modeled without self sealing tanks, but I may introduced 'late' models with the tanks. The forward tank of the later model Spit IA and Hurri Rotol were protected by a curved armour plate of thin sheet. The early Spit I and Hurri Dh5-20 did not have this.

The 110's have self sealing tanks.

Most of the bombers also have self-sealing tanks.

Thanks for the info buzz, I was going to ask why on earth the 109's fuel was protected by measly rubber and plywood, especially since it's right behind the pilot.

Was the laminated aliminum efficient at deflecting rounds? I'm guessing explosive cannon rounds would absolutely demolish the poor 109; however the rifle caliber rounds from Spits and Hurricanes might be deflected.
