    Heinkel He 111 controls

This is a list of controls needed to learn flying and bombing at various altitudes with the Heinkel He 111.

Your standard controls should all ready be set. Such as throttle and steering.

All of my controls are one touch keys. That is, no ALT X or Shift X. I use the X52 pro and have more than enough keys, so I don't have to change depending on aircraft.

    Heinkel He 111

    Wheel Chocks

    View-Position #1 (pilot)
    View-position #2 (bombardier)
View-position #6 (ventral gunner) This position allows you to watch your bombs drop to target.

    lean to gunsight

    fuel cock #1
    fuel cock #2

    engine #1 select
    engine #2 select
    all engines select

    toggle selected engine (ignition)

    primary cockpit illumination (toggle)

    left wheel brakes
    right wheel brakes

    raise undercarriage
    lower undercarriage

    raise landing flaps
    lower landing flaps

    open radiator
    close radiator

    open oil radiator
    close oil radiator

    prop pitch +
    prop pitch -

    selected supercharger- next step
    selected supercharger- previous step

    elevator trim up
    elevator trim down

    rudder trim left
    rudder trim right

    aileron trim left
    aileron trim right

    course setter +
course setter - (sets compass heading)

    gyro setter +
gyro setter - (calibrate to compass heading, also assists autopilot)

    autopilot next
autopilot previous (selects between off, course, and 22 mode)
    autopilot left
autopilot right (adjusts course once autopilot is engaged)

    open bomb bay doors
    close bomb bay doors

    toggle bombs armed

    decrease bomb distributor salvo quantity
increase bomb distributor salvo quantity (sets the number of bombs to drop)

    decrease bomb distributor delay
increase bomb distributor delay (sets the delay between each bomb in meters)

    toggle bombsight automation

    decrease sight distance
increase sight distance (aims bombsight distance)

    sight altitude +
sight altitude - (used to set bomb sight altitude for bomb drop)

    sight velocity +
sight velocity - (used to set IAS or TAS for bomb drop)

    adjust sight left
adjust sight right (used to adjust side slip on bomb sight to account for wind)

    drop ordnance (bomb)

Don't feel overwhelmed, we can show you how to use these controls with ease.

Some people like to use the mouse clickable dash, but I don't. Once all of your keys are set, you won't have to look for any controls around the cockpit of the various aircraft.

I also have an 'Info window' with my engine controls, vehicle damage, vehicle crew, vehicle secondary controls, and vehicle system showing, to allow me to see a digital readout of my throttle, supercharger, rads, oil rads, and other important info.

Also, you are going to need the LOTFE 7 chart. It will allow to see take-off altitude and target altitudes. For the Axis Bombers, it allows you to convert your IAS to TAS.

Here's the link, check it out.

    Good luck and have fun.

    Re: Heinkel He 111 controls

    Hi ATAG_DRock,

I do not own the X52 PRO but only the X52 standard and I can't set all the controls on my joystick and throttle. Is that normal or are you using the profile editor from Mad Catz?
    Can you help me please?

    Sincerely yours

    Wolverine

    Quick question Drock,

If i arm bombs, Open bombay doors then press safety drop (jettersion bombs) would they go off on impact?

    If they do,

beleive this would be a good thing for germans if they can get a master bomber in a flight of bombers.

Like we do with the blennys, once lead calls bombs away or on visual seeing bombs go ?

I may have to experiment if you also don't know/not sure .

Sry, Wolverine, I didn't see that question. I don't use the editor.

Coldstreamer, I'm not sure. And I'm not 100% sure of your question. If you wish to jettison, just disarm in Axis bombers.

The Blenheim bombs will not explode if you jettison them.

    Sorry mate,

I didn't put that in the greatest of terms, so i'll start again. i'll keep it simple this time.

If there was a German raid on with lets say heinkels can they have 1 master bomber who calls the drop like we do with the blenny's or does each bomber have to set up the bomb sight? Thinking about it the ju88 i beleive could do so as the pilot has a dedicated bomb release button.

Can the heinkel open bomb bay doors, arm bombs and drop load without going to luft site (bomb site) or does each bomber have to set sites

i'll keep it at that at the minute

The answer is yes. As long as bombs are armed and bomb bay open. We synchronize bomb drops with every high altitude bomber. Works great.

Just to add. It's good practice to be set up to level bomb even when you have a lead, or master bomber. After all, lead may not make it to target and someone else will have to fill that position.

If you go into a server that allows outside views (TWC Practice Server for ex.) OR go into an offline mission or campaign, you can watch the outside view of yourself while doing this, which is quite helpful. You can see whether bombs are dropping or not. Right-click on your CLoD screen, then "view aircraft".
